This has probably already been mentioned a hundred times before, but things tend to get buried over time, so I'm reprinting it for the sake of keeping it fresh for the newbies:

Day One: First thing you want to do is go to your EVE Mail. Open the window. In the upper left hand side you will see a little symbol ( Eve Mail ). Click that symbol and then SETTINGS. You will now see that it says "Require CSPA charge from unknown characters" and underneath that it will say "CSPA Charge: 2950"

Good, now change that value to 0.

Why? Because despite what you have heard, there is actually plenty of people out there who will happily help your newbie butt out if they can contact you without headaches. That CSPA charge, while pocket change to most people, is still a headache. An annoyance. It's a barrier between you & those who can help you.

Sometimes the difference between getting that free stuff or a useful invite is that tiny little annoyance that pops up when people go to contact you. They say "Oh screw it" and move on. The help is not offered after all. So get rid of that and you've take your first step to acknowledging the social aspect to this social game.

You have learned a more valuable lesson. By learning about your cspa charge, you have learned that you can allow others to convo/mail you without cost. Some others don't want to be bothered randomly by others and set a high cost, but that's a personal decision.

Options are good, no matter what you do, and this charge is just another option, though I am glad you learned to disable it for your benefit.
