Autopilot Countdown

I've got an idea about the autopilot system, it's an estimated time of arrival countdown that shows how long time it would take to use autopilot to reach your destination.

This is a neat idea, but it is difficult to determine how long it will take for you to swap systems and if you encounter anything (ie get bumped) along the way. This would require the server to send your client the distance between each gate, which isn't a terribly intensive process, but it's not something that would benefit most people.

I disagree. I think it would be very beneficial.

As for getting bumped, it should be pretty easy to make it so that part of the "you got bumped" programming event checks to see if you have auto pilot on, and if so, recalculates estimated time.

A similar number should also be calculated (more roughly and less often updated) even when auto-pilot is off, and displayed up on the upper left by where your route is displayed. Instead of an estimated arrival time, this would show an estimated total trip time, so that it doesn't have to keep changing constantly when you just sit there. It would only update when you warp somewhere, not while you remain on grid.

Ideally, the second version of the number (the one displayed all the time by your route) would show two versions: once for the estimated autopilot time to your destination, and once right next to it for the estimated non-autopilot time to your destination (assuming catlike perfect reflexes)

I would use that all the time! Some trips take almost twice as long as other trips due to gates being 100 AU apart versus 10,000km apart, etc.
