What the heck was that sound?

So, there I was, practicing my safe spot technique for exploring, when I suddenly hear a klaxon go off. I've got d-scan running, and see a list of various structures -- some military, some anchored, no clue what any of them are -- with no distance listed.

The klaxon scared the bejesus out of me (which I'm guessing was the point), so I hightailed it away from that area. I also heard this klaxon sound when I went to view the Ruined Minmatar Outpost.

What is this sound? If my flight behavior is causing it, what should I do to not set it off?

Perhaps a low capacitor warning if you left a module running or performed too many warps in quick succession?

This. I was surprised by it also when it first happened to me. I was warping around a system quickly in a ship with not a lot of capacitor.

Had you attacked or been attacked by any ships recently? If you do you get a timer (15min I think) which will make a sound when it expires. As a player returning after quite a long time of no EVE I was quite startled by it the first few times until I figured out what it was...

The timer you get ensures that if you log off, your ship will remain there, floating in space. All it lacks is a big neon sign saying "I'M HERE PLEASE COME KILL ME WHILE I CANNOT FIGHT BACK' so it's a good idea to keep track of it ;)

Nope, I had not been fighting, nor attacked. I was just parked in space, at my safe spot.

The sound was big, and it *seemed* external -- like it wasn't coming from my ship. I was able to warp off immediately.

I was an unknown distance from some structures, which were a combination of military and anchored/floating research labs. My best guess at this point is that I was too damn close to something, and the klaxon went off to scare me away.

So, good job on that, klaxon!

"Klaxon" lol...

Were you zooming in and out? Sometimes when I zoom in fast while my shield booster is running it will do one really loud burst. I think this happens with some other active modules too.

Is it just one sound or does it repeat 3 times? 5 times?

If they'd turn it into a Paul Shaffer alarm I'd put sound on in Eve Big smile

Was it your doorbell?

I have deliberately developed an air of cynicism that I originally intended to make me appear somewhat louche and caddish but actually comes across as irritable hostility combined with the unspoken threat of sudden violence.....

Come on guys...

Bolded part, how did you miss it...

He was at a moon with a POS.

Likely locking sound, maybe a low shield warning.

If you were in a safe spot this time + in a DED site the other time you heard the sound:

EVE has 4 warning sounds:

1.) Low shield warning sound
2.) Low armor warning sound
3.) Low hull warning sound (usually when you hear it, you will also see your ship explode).
4.) Low Capacitor warning sound.

Likely it was the fourth you heard, the low capacitor. In your safespot you just had too many active modules running with not enough capacitor to sustain them. This dried up your capacitor slowly while you looked at your D-scan / Probes and it gave you the warning.

The first time in the DED site the same happened, you had too many modules running (tank / Ewar / Guns) and that made your capacitor low.

No, it wasn't my cap. The cap was fine. I baby that cap.

This is the closest example I could find to what I've heard; imagine this about 20% slower, and 60% more basso profundo:

Close. What I've heard is about 20% slower, and again, way more bass.

Ok, I'll keep looking...

"More bass" can depend on your speakers, I had to check.

Was it also 20% cooler? Cool

What sound does a bass make? Was it like a dolphin cry? (the mammal not the fish)

Did someone in one of your chat channels key their mic key for EVE Voice? That happens sometimes to me if someone is set to talk in Corp instead of Fleet or some other channel. You get a loud squelch or feedback sound.

One time I had my cell phone in my desk drawer under the keyboard and when it rang I was all like "WTF is this alarm going off?!"

Alcohol may have been involved. Ugh
