What region are you in OP? Where I live it is DEAD Straight

Don't have the game loaded right now but the " verge vendor " comes to mind, if that's a region at all or just something my brain made up? lol.

Hmm, could be Ouelletta, Murethand or Hevrice. Here is some advice, stop hunting in my backyard and neighbourhood this aera isn't really good for your health and you should switch from Rifter to Slasher.

I'm just using cheap Rifters to practice PvP, sure I probably wont win much unless facing down another noob, but the idea is just to get to grips with how all of the mechanics work and the kind of tactics people use along with getting better myself before I start trying to fly more expensive ships I have no idea about.

Btw, I'm not going anywhere Blink

I would just like to point out... you didn't pirate. You almost kidnapped, threatened with violence and then ransomed.

Pirates would take the money and then blow up their victims and lewt their wrecks regardless.

We think of e-honor as more of a guideline.... and not an actual code that has to be followed or even enforced.

Pirates have ransomed people for hundreds of years and still do today, even Julius Caesar himself was captured by pirates when he was a young man, they ransomed him. To quote "Piracy is typically an act of robbery or criminal violence at sea.", or in this case space instead of sea, but it is piracy nonetheless to attack a ship and rob it, regardless of if anyone was murdered or not or whether you were honourable to your word or not.

I also was only honourable to my word because that's just the type of guy that I am and it's a smart tactic, I didn't think it was a code or anything. Plus if I catch him again next month I'll have him pay another ransom, if I had blew his ship up after he payed the ransom he would (hopefully for his sake) not be stupid enough to pay a ransom to me again.

I have always honored ransoms. I think pirates who don't are cutting off one of their few income sources. It is acutally rare now to get someone to pay because of the ransom and shoot anyway. The Barbary Pirates in North Africa who in their later years actually perpetrated little violence as long as people passing through their waters gave them appropriate "tax" . If I accidentally blow up someone after a ransom is paid I have always paid to replace their ship and all it's mods. I see myself more in line with a buccanner who would rather get money without effort than expend ammo and time and only get a km and some paltry mods. So guideline? Yeah...but I think it's a good one to use if you expect to have ransoms honored.

Good read, and well done sir.

I expected to read something like: He payed the ransom but I still killed him lol, but you didn't which is honorable.

A good read sir. Your story was the initial reason I started on EvE, to become a pirate but I've been mining for.....well too long perhaps. I think you may have inspired me lBig smile

Do it, you can still do your other bits and pieces like mining, but it's good fun looking for fights or even victims to rob :). I mine to make my own Rifters to save myself some cash right now, though I'll probably be buying ships aswell in the future.

Basically don't fly what you can't afford to lose and accept that your ship WILL be blown up at some point. I already lost two rifters this morning, one was because of my own stupidity, I didn't think about the station sentry guns in 0.4 and attacked someone way too close to them ( blown to pieces very quickly lol ) and the other was when I went up against an outlaw who was also in a Rifter, though his was kitted out with T2 fitting and mine wasn't so I got stomped pretty badly lol.

Still, from that I learned to make more notice of the AI defenses in systems and I also learned T2 fittings are awesome and I don't really care about the Rifters or the fittings on them that I lost. Good luck!

Sorry for double post just updating on my adventures, maybe some other new players might learn from my own mistakes too :).

Well anyhow last time I was online I went hunting, again I managed to find a system with a Procurer in, I noticed a few other people in local and also another ship in the system, a cruiser.

Was the other ship another pirate, a bigger, nastier and far more dangerous pilot than myself? maybe, but I'm never going to learn anything or gain anything if I don't take chances. So I began warping to each asteroid belt until I finally found the Procurer and the same as last time I quickly closed in on him, scrambled his warp drives, webbed and began draining energy, I started orbiting him, he seemed to be afk, his drones did nothing as I began blasting away at his shields.

So there I sat, slowly working my way into his shields, low and behold a pilot, an outlaw to be exact, warps into the belt. I paused for a couple of seconds, I instantly thought about warping to a stargate, but something inside me to just stay put, carry on and see what this guy actually does. A large part of me kind of knew he would probably blow me to pieces, he was in a cruiser I can't remember the name of, but I really just wanted to see his reaction.

So yeah, in a matter of seconds he used a MWD to close the distance and attacked me, oh well, I didn't stand much of a chance as his guns tore my fragile little Rifter apart fairly quickly, I couldn't put enough distance or traverse to make his guns struggle to hit me so my ship was space dust soon after. I never really enjoy losing a ship but it doesn't bother me, I was more thinking about what had really happened.

I thought about the fact that he could have been just a pirate like me, looking for ships to blow up or miners to ransom, but then it dawned upon me that he could have been the miner I was attacking, hell he could have even set up the miner just as bait and not even cared less about the actual mining. He could have also just been a friend of the miner.

I guess it's helped me to start thinking out of the box, to think more about alts and to in future just follow my first instincts and warp out when an Outlaw cruiser jumps into the belt I'm in Lol, guess I got unlucky that time.

So yeah.. I've lost 4 rifters so far and been podded twice, but in all I've not really lost much ISK, infact I'm still in the profit on ISK where my 5mil ransom is concerned, I made all 4 of the Rifters myself, the 300k odd ISK I profit from the insurance covers for most of the fittings. My clones don't cost me much at all either seeing as my SP are so low, maybe like 65k a clone? peanuts. Even when I do start falling out of profit, I still think it will be worth it, with every engagement I am learning something, getting wiser you could say.

Smile

You have done well. I have never been one for honoring ransoms... as I'm a trigger happy maniac who really, really, really cares about getting on killmails.

May as well repay the hard earned bullet(s) I put into the poor guy.
