A nasty way of looking at it... Forums are like compost piles. There's a lot of less than desirable "matter" added to them and many don't like hanging around them but they can yield some value over time.

Pretty much this.

Not to mention that a lot of people find the prevailing forum culture (in terms of volume) here repellent. There are only so many "edgy" 'Look how totally cynical I am, oh look ladies, am I not so cool and not at all tiresome and tedious for saying that everything is **** and everyone's lying and CCP are idiots and look how cool I am and I can solve all the problems with my uninformed one-liner solutions such as goons blueblobs NIPs nullsec hisec pirates ganking miners solo PVP is dead whargel garble rabble rabble" posts that one wants to read for entertainment.

Back in the day these forums used to be quite well regarded by the player base, now everyone just despises them, and indeed themselves when they post here.

Mostly people that just don't care about what happens here and don't believe it's important.
Don't worry though, when new mechanics that let you kill them come in and they don't know about it you'll be happy.

I remember during the Burn Jita campaign that there were still people who didn't have a clue it was happening because the only news they got was logging into EVE. Pretty much around that time I decided I should probably use my Twitter account to follow EVE.

OP, I don´t post comments, ideas or thoughts because I know it´ll automatically get some kind of flame, troll, stupid smart arse return.

Whoa. 13 years playing EverQuest seems "bizarre and unexplainable", tbh.

Why do people think finding a needle in anything non metallic is hard??? Just use a metal detector Roll

What if it's a plastic needle??

Last I checked, forum participation isn't a term of service.

Then the trolls win. Post your ideas, ignore the stupid comments and engage with the people who make constructive criticisms or suggestions. Yes, it's an effort but if you want to see your ideas gain traction, then it's the only way.

Otherwise known as the signal to noise ratio. On the EVE-O forums that ratio is about 1:100.

Compare eve-search poster stats to character stats and then downplay that a bit due to alt posts, and then add in the normal active:lurker ratios.

Anyway, it doesn't particularly matter what the end number is since there's nothing that inherently disqualifies the standard 10% (or EVE's apparent higher number) from being a good representation of the player base at large. Small minority or not, if the sample is representative, it's not a problem.

Yes, so why don't you post those figures instead of randomly deciding that it is 10%?
I guess you state imaginary facts and then post a source that you havn't actaully checked out. You're a fraud sir.

for me Eve Online forums is a place where i can troll and read trolls. There is simply too small amount of usefull stuff here. Anything you need can be found in google faster than here.

So unless you like to troll you have no reasons to visit this place.

Ehm… you mean aside from the fact that I didn't randomly decide it's 10%?

Look up the “1% Rule” for where the 10% figure comes from.

As for the 15%, the analysis for that is hidden somewhere in the depth of the forum archives. Good luck finding it (or indeed searching for anything with a percent sign in it P). The method was pretty much the one previously mentioned.

Honestly I find it amazing anyone is able to read half of the sub literate garbage and malformed ideas on this forum without wanting to huff paint thinner while playing with a lighter.

The first thing I do when considering trying a new game is read their forums. I have been an active member of the forums of every game I've played since 1999. One trend I've noticed since the MMO explosion in 2003-2004 is a large percentage of socially awkward individuals who play MMO's solo. It's like they are on the outside looking in but cannot commit to the full experience of a thriving online community.

But then again, maybe most folks are casual players who log in and play for a couple hours a day then do other things, and never think about EVE for the rest of the night. Unfortunately I find myself wondering about whats going on in EVE when I'm not logged in, which leads me to visit forums. This 23/7 dynamic universe is unique (at least for me) in this way. I played EQ1 for 13 years and when I wasnt playing- I never thought twice about whats going on in Norrath. Its bizarre and unexplainable, could be gypsy magic Smile

I do the exact same thing. I lurked on these forums for a couple of weeks before I even made an account. I researched the commonly encountered problems for new players and the general vibe of those playing.

EVE seems to have an effect that most MMO's I've played simply don't. Like you I think about the game while I'm offline. Whether that's a subconscious side-effect of simply knowing that I've got skills training and there is activity while I'm off I don't know because I rarely thought about STO or LOTRO while offline.

I vaguely recollect that figure being advanced by someone in CCP a year or two ago - possibly one of the community managers?
