Hello,

Well, i made a caldari char coz i like use missiles, joined a corp last night and the guys told me that Caldari has no use for nothing since that the dev´s will nerf shield and missile. they told me to restart and pick another class. Well, i like my char and would like to know if all that is true.

Thank you

Ignore that guy for the rest of time because he must be a moron. If he's the CEO, director or anyone "high up" (lol) in that corp then just leave it as it means the whole corp is full of similar retards.

They have their uses. Granted, they don't get a lot of use in combat fleets, but they have their uses.

Actually, now that unguided missiles are awesome and T2 ammo got unnerfed I'd say that missiles as a whole do just fine in solo and small gang pvp.

Had a quick look at this corp and trust me, you're not missing much by having left them.

Also, you can train any ships, not just Caldari, and it's likely that you'll end up with multiple races anyway, because some ships are popular. So don't re-roll your character, just train different things.

Caldari ships use shields, missiles, and hybrids. They're easy to use for PVE, and the issue with missiles in PVP is that they take some time to get to the target, which means you're lower on the DPS meters, and we all know how people care about that.

Gallente ships use armor, drones, and hybrids. They're average for PVE (drones are being attacked now) and some of the ships are decent for PVP, depending on what you're doing.

Minmatar ships can use either shields or armor, and use projectile weapons, missiles, and drones. Jacks of all trades; their ships are usually fast and versatile, which makes them really popular for PVP (also because projectiles don't use capacitor, but that's a detail). You have to train more skills for Minmatar ships to be flown properly (more systems to deal with).

Amarr ships use armor, lasers, and missiles or drones. They're good in PVE against the Amarr area rats, and their battleships are desired in PVP in large fleet DPS roles.

Each race has some ships that are really nice for certain specific roles - interception, long range jamming, logistics support, etc. All races have been rebalanced so the vanilla T1 ship lineup - frigate, destroyer, cruiser etc. are equally good and functional.

Actually, OP, Caldari just recently got very large buffs as a whole. Most of their ship lineup save the Drake, Tengu and some of the battleship lineup was sorely underperforming. The Drake and Tengu got nerfed, but almost every other ship they have got or is getting buffed in the near future.

My current favorite ship is a Caldari blaster Harpy.

I can pilot any frigate in EVE. It really doesn't take that long to train for all of them.

At the moment every race has really useful ships in their arsenal. Anyone who claims X race sucks is entitled to their opinion but take what they say with a grain of salt.

I asked the exact same question when I first joined and the answer is no. Sure people will continuously tell you they do suck but this is simply not true. They have their roles in fleet and there are several Caldari fleet doctrines. To me a race sucks when there is no fleet doctrine based around them cough* cough* Gallente.

If you fly Caldari i recommend training hybrid skills as well because the Naga and Rokh with railguns are used a lot in fleets and small gang and are just sexy. The HAM Caracal and blaster Moa are also good cruisers for small gang. Blackbirds and Falcons are good for small gang and Scorpions see fleet use in my main alliance. I also hear the Hawk and Harpy are good assault frigates.

Basically to get the most out of Caldari you have to train both Hybrids and Missiles. Furthermore the gunnery support skills will help later when you decide to cross train.

The ship roles just got smoothed out so that there are direct analogues in each race, the available ships in the tech 1 category (i.e. the only one you care about with the maybe-exception of stealth bombers if you're in this section of the forums) aren't necessarily equal from race to race, but they're now always _comparable_, i.e. if you can build a heavy-tanked frigate with weapons bonuses in Amarr without resorting to faction module craziness then you can do the same with a similarly-bonused ship in Caldari.

Basically, don't worry about it.

(I seem to be giving the "don't worry about it" advice a lot. To be fair, it's pretty much the primary lesson that the ridiculous amount of effort I initially put into this game taught me.)

Stay caldari and if they have a problem, find a new corp imo.

If you like it, stick with it. Your character is forever, your corp, not so much.

I believe that too.

It is probably true that Caldari is the worst race for PVP, but they are very good for other things, and I know of no plans of CCP to nerf shield tanking, nor to nerf missiles further than they've already done (a modest change to Heavy Missiles, a month or two ago).

Furthermore, there's almost never a good reason to "start over" with a new character, because you can always cross-train into the ships and weapon systems of another race, at no penalty whatsoever.

In other words, the OP has found a bunch of retards. My advice to him is to get away from them as fast as possible, and find a corp with people in it that don't constantly spew out misiformation and bad advice.

Caldari ships are fine for pvp, just not for all types of pvp (juts like all the other races, they have their pros and cons). What you have to realise that most of the "pvpers" do so in big blobs because that's all they know as they're scared of not being able to hide behind others. And in that sort of scenarios the ship types are quite limited but as there's way more (and more interesting) types of pvp you'll find that Caldari can do just fine, but the vast majority of people will never do that, have no clue on it and will just spout old, tired and wrong memes instead. Here's a list of good T1 pvp ships Caldari has:

- merlin
- kestrel
- griffin
- condor
- bantam
- caracal
- moa
- osprey
- blackbird
- drake (better than it was before, just not in moronic blobs)
- naga
- raven (yes)
- scorpion

Back in the day, there used to be a very restricted range of Caldari ships that were any good for the PvP doctrines of the time.

That day is long over. IMO Caldari has one of the best ship lineups at the moment. Trying to second-guess CCP future ship balancing efforts will not make you happy, trust me on this. Train the ships you think you'll enjoy flying, because they're the ones you'll get the best results in, not the flavour-of-the-month ship that you don't really like that much.

HOWEVER

I would strongly advise against restricting yourself to missiles only. There are almost as many caldari gunships as there are missileboats, and most of the Caldari turret platforms are really good right now. You'll be missing out a lot if you ignore gunnery.

Even if you do decide to train non caldari ships, you don't need to abandon your character. Just buy the skillbooks and go to it. Personally I'm a fan of cross-training.

I just thought I'd chime in on a few points here. I fly Caldari ships quite often, everything from frigates through cruisers and up to battleships and find them to be a fairly solid platform for performing numerous tasks, from small fast jamming frigs up to drone wielding, torpedo lobbing battleships Big smile

I also want to say how nice it was to come in here and see so many polite, well worded and helpful responses to the OP's queries, you guys 'n gals are awesome Big smile

Even if it was true (its not) there would be no need to restart, anyone can train any ships. The guy was just trying to get you to biomass your char, i would put a big bounty on him if i was you. Or rejoin the corp and kill him.
