Low sec draws a variety of folks. Some are there for purely PVE and marketing purposes. Others are there for faction warfare. And some are there to just get any kills that they can. Some high sec to low sec gates are popular with pirates who will kill anyone and anything they can get a lock on that comes through their gates. Other low sec systems are usually safe enough unless you get caught somewhere like a belt or in a mission in which case a solo pirate is likely to find you sooner or later and relieve you of your ship and/or pod.

The thing you need to understand is that with pirates it isnt personal. It is just business. They are there to get kills. Any kill is good enough.

So I imagine that is why people like to make pvp alts so that they don't have to worry about their security status and can kill or be killed to their hearts content.

No, some of us only use alts to post with funny names and pictures while our main is -10. Security Status isn't a punishment it's a badge that says BadMuthaFukah when it reaches -10 and you LIKE it that way.
