Researching meta 2-4 BPCs?

I've been reading guides on invention ect and have found plenty of info on how to research T2 BPCs and they mention using higher meta T1 items in order to increase the chance of success. What I can't find is info on how to research/invent the BPCs for the meta 2-4 items themselves. How do you obtain/manufacture these?

The modules are obtained from rats.

There are no bpcs for them and thus, you cannot manufacture them.

Thanks didn't know that. Do mission NPCs typically drop the same loot as belt rats?

They come from similar loot tables, if not the same ones.

AFAIK, yes. However, remember that each faction of rats will have their own loot tables. It's possible to get different mission rats than the belt rats in the system. Loot will follow the faction of the ship that dropped it, not the faction of rats native to the area.

Ironically most of the meta 4 stuff is more expensive than the T2 (meta 5) version. So you'd never really use it in invention, but the meta 1-2 is normally fairly cheap.

Not true. Only few if the meta 4 items are not with using in invention. I generally use meta 4 whenever possible
