So, what should I do after the agent missions?

I've been playing EVE for less than 1 month now, but the basics are starting to sink in now. I've completed the industry agent missions and now I'm doing business.

Once I finish all 5 agent missions what should I do next? So far I'm focusing on Industry (mining).

Multiple suggestions are welcome, thx.

Ooh, yet another "what should I do" thread.

Really whats so hard to understand about the term 'Sandbox' game.

You can do what YOU want, not something someone else tells you to do.

So instead of what should I do, ask yourself "What do I like to do?" that answer is the thing you should do.

You of course can ask for help in certain professions but NOBODY will be able to tell you what you should do cause they arent you and dont know what you like and dont like.

EDIT:

In the small case an ISD or GM sees this. Maybe an idea for a sticky to provide them with an overview of "Things to do in EVE"
Like the EVE personality test and swift and bitter link etc.

AND explain them that evrything is open to them and they can do anything (within the game rules) they want.

Before everyone comes in here yelling about their favorite profession, I'd like to caution you against being swayed too much by individuals' opinions on their professions. It's one thing to get inspired by their recommendations and possibly consider something, and it's another to do stuff just because others tell you to do it.

As such: do what you like! That's one great part of the sandbox. There is nothing you should or need to do to be playing "right".

Anyway, if you'd like some inspiration on stuff to do, I recommend you look at the what to do chart. It's player-made from a couple of expansions ago, and probably requires some updating (such as adding bounty hunting related things, and adding killright selling) but it's a good general guide for stuff to do.

Good luck and have fun!

I can relate to your situation.
When i first started i got all the suggestions you probably have already.
But how can you know that fleet warfare is what you want when you have had no experience with it?
Or know about PVP, or trading or any of what is possible in Eve's "sandbox playground.
How can you know what Corp would be best for you?
You can't really.
At least not yet.

I would suggest doing a variety things in order to find what suits you.
There are a variety of different forms of PVP.
They go from joining a Corp and being just another pilot (cannon fodder) with the corp footing the bill.
To solo PVP where you keep buying Plex in order to keep your self in ships.
There are a lot of variation, way to many to list.
There are those that follow a code of honor when they play and those that think easy kills are the best.

There is of course, mining.
Mining is the heart of Eve, in that without the minerals that are mined from the asteroids there would be no ships.
And without manufacturers to convert the minerals there would be no ships and stuff to play with.
Traders make stuff available and help make it available.
Many do these things to make isk to finance their other interest.
To be reasonably skilled here would be handy in what ever you finally decide to do.

Being able to effectively use scanner probes and D-scan is a good thing.
Doing exploration for Radar, Magnimetric, Gravimetric and DED sites can be profitable.
This also give you access to Wormholes (which i do believe is considered by many to be the last frontier).

Some really like doing missions.
Missions can be a source of isk and something to do while you are waiting for your skills to improve.
Missions do not really teach you how to PVP but can be fun and teach you a lot.

It is always a good idea to have something to do when you are by your self.
But try to remember the most fun is fun shared.

You need to learn how to do things as your skills improve.
Get a bit of an understand of all the different parts of Eve.
Read the forums.

Check out what attracts your attention and see if it is right for you.
Joining a Corp. is not a life long commitment and to find the right one (if there is a right one) for you may take awhile.
If your interests change, generally that means that you will need to change Corp.

Keep in mind, there is no winning Eve.
There is no end Boss to defea

As my first post was posted while in a hurry let me add some information.

If you are mining while you don't like it, only cause Person A told you to mine. You are playing EVE wrong.
If you are running mission after mission while you find it boring, only cause Person B told you that you should run missions. You are playing EVE wrong.
If you go out to Rancer in a frigate full of expensive stuff, while you don't know what you are doing and don't like that and do it only cause Person C told you to go there. You are playing EVE wrong (and you're stupid for listening to Person C, who is likely on the killmail with his smartbombing battleship).

If you play EVE in any way that makes you have a good time and makes you want to come back to the game, then - and only then - you are playing EVE right.

And as having fun playing a game is a matter of personal interest, every single person who plays EVE plays it in his way.

People who like mining mine.
People who like to kill miners kill them (and whine about them).
People who like to trade, trade (and make huge ISK with that if done right).

So how do you fit into this and know what you makes you have fun playing the game...

Well, as a new player you won't. So what SHOULD you do....try anything you want and can think of.

If you think that mission running may be the thing you like, go out and try it.
If you think that trading may be the thing you like, give it a shot.
If you think that being a low-sec pirate is the thing that keeps you logging on for more action, go and do it.
Eventually, you will find the thing you like, for some it's a matter of minutes others take days or even weeks. If you found what you like to do, then specialize into it (make yourself better in that thing) or expand to something else that also interest you.

i have to agree with the posters above. just ask yourself what you want to do, then explore this direction. here are some questions that might help you:
- do you like flying spaceships?
- do you like shooting things?
- do you like competing with other players?
- do you like ruining peoples' day?
- do you like learning new things?
- do you like making big money?
- do you like setting up production chains (like in ANNO or railroad tycoon or somesuch)?
- do you like chatting with other people?
.
.
.

all of these can help you find something fun to do in EVE.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Thanks Bud, that was exactly how I felt. I think I'll be running some missions for awhile until I get used to everything.

Thanks for those 2 replies. Yeah, I'm definitely new to the whole "Sandbox" thing (way of thinking). I came from the whole "wow" type of environment where things were sort of "guided". Eve seams like an alternate life, but cooler P

Well. Welcome to EVE.

Ask (more) specific questions on these forums and you will get a truck load of useful advice from lots of people. And there is a benefit in that, you will get many many different opinions on something, which means better supply of information.

And of course, make friends in EVE. Talk to people. Join a corp (which you already did). Hang out in different chat channels. The more people you know, the bigger your options in EVE.

Despite all the posts in this thread... there is really only one thing you SHOULD do....

You should find some people to fly with, some people to befriend. This game is much, much better when played with others....

There are 5!?

And yeah, find people that are cool and have fun. Or solo it up and become a pirate. Heck I dunno, use you imagination. And copious amounts of legal substances, you need some inspiration I guess!

the alternate life metaphor goes farther than you think; just as in real life, you have to earn your bread and butter. now, in contrast to real life, you can always generate ISK by buying a PLEX from CCP and then selling in for ISK on the market, but if you are unable or unwilling to do this, you should look around for a "day job" to fund whatever PVP activities you may have in mind.

I should buy an Ishtar.

IMO the absolute priority 1 thing to do is find a fun group of folks to play alongside, who aren't actively trying to shoot you down or rob you. The chance of this latter being the case increases as your character grows older and richer. Rookies have not much worth taking and little worth bragging about destroying. Use this precious immunity interval while you have it.
