in early 2005 three clan mates introduced me to eve online, The exodus expansion had just come out and the aspect of Destroyers, Hac's, Af's and Ceptors gave them a massive boner and needed to expand there corp, So i decided to play the 14 day trial and see what all the fuss was about.

7 years later thousands of game hours clocked up and many many sleepless nights on CTA and Op's i'm sitting here wondering what the future of EVE holds, not just for the game but more importantly myself. I have pirated, Anti-pirated, Lived in worm holes and 0.0, carebeared it up in high sec and ran incursions through out the EVE universe and now i'm lost for what to do.

I have taken many breaks in my EVE career and always come back with the same eagerness i started with, visions of a massive corporations, Alliances and thousands of kills but not soon after do i feel lost in the game, with no scene of direction or motivation. I log in change skills have a look through my items in station looking at how much it all equates to then log off again for another day or two to pass before my training que goes dormant again.

So what i'm asking is what is out there for an old school eve player, whats new and exciting, what grabs you and pulls you in with the enthusiasm to play for endless hours, days and weeks and keeps you entertained?

Eve to me now feels like that EX girlfriend, where you know you shouldn't give her another go because you know she will scald you first opportunity she gets, but the prospect that something will change and be different this time around pulls you in every time and makes you weak at the knees.

Please no Trolls, Honest answers and opinions if you would, My stuff is not up for grabs unless you live down in paragon soul and want some old old 4 year old crap thats been there since ASCN days :P

Sounds like you are done. You know, having achieved everyting you wanted and wanting nothing more. Yeah, there are some things you could probably dothat you haven't done before, but let's be honest now... you haven't done them for a reason right?

It seems that so far your attempts to progress in the game have been focused on your characters and your own player skill/experiences.

What about social progression (be it within your corp, alliance or the EVE community at large)?

You seem like you are burned out. Take a break, see if you want to come back after several months. If not, good luck, it's only a computer game.

Respect.Cool and RIP Vile Rat.

Agreed. There is no law saying that you have to still play EVE if you no longer have any real interest. Take care and see you down the road mate.

I think Vera hit it - try social goals instead of character goals. Some ideas:

  • Join a corp with the full intent from day 1 of bringing it to its knees. How much damage can you do?
  • Help grow a small corp. How many members can you get?
  • You didn't list mercenary work. Ever thought about being paid to harass people?
  • What's the biggest thing you can build? Try for something bigger. Work with other people.
  • Any interest in supercaps?

In EVE, you HAVE to have goals. E.g. get 10,000 kills, get enough ISK for capital production (hint: ~100bil for ok-ish scale) etc. If you don't have any goals anymore and can't think of new ones, it's time to quit. Without goals, you will never have that incentive and excitment.

Just a couple of suggestions, but it really depends on what floats your boat ...

- Have you considered FW? I hear the Caldari need all the help they can get Twisted
- Sounds like you have a tonne of experience, have you ever considered passing that knowledge on to new pilots as a teacher/lecturer?
- How about considering RvB just for the pew pew lols Smile

Thanks for all the replies, Yeah i tried mercenary work for a short while but you need a tight nit group to make it work, and 90% of the time there was no real contracts just griefing miner's / industrialist which i'm game for but not all the time lol.

Maybe i am just truly burnt out on EVE for the moment i might come back one all the ships have been totaly redone to get rid of the tier system and that wonderfully door in the quarters has finally been unlocked :P

Thanks guys, Fly safe

Wait, don't go! The one thing you haven't done yet is destroy Goons! The entire organization. It needs to be done. And doing that ought to provide you with many hours of interesting new challenges.

You could try level up.

EvE end game is not just about doing industry or exploding ships.
That's the *tools* you can use to actually join the real game, which involves persons and relations. And meta, lots and lots of meta game. Most EvE players don't even get there, they are content with the pure mechanical part of the game, but those who want to go beyond, well they can.

I started pretty much when you did, during Exodus. I can say that the future holds exactly the same as it has always held. It's not EVE that has changed, but you. As others have suggested, explore new and more complicated objectives. Or simply face the fact that you've outgrown EVE and it's time to move on.

So, your stuff.... can I have it?

Have you staked out a claim in 0.0 as an alliance leader? I hear that is EVE's true endgame.
