sorry if this topic is floating around somewhere but i can't find it at all in the search option. so i'm coming back after a few years off and i want to make an alt toon. my main is caldari and i remember them always being the best for pve but i'm bored with their ships and i'll probbaly just use him for mining now. i want my alt to be either amarr, or minmatar and i just want to know wich one is better for pve. oh and pvp because i want to do that too. when i left i knoew the amarr where the best for pvp in the long run and good for pve as well. is this still true?

Your character doesn't matter, the only difference between them is Starting Location, Character Looks, Rookie Ship, Whats given in the tutorial.

All the skills are the same apart from Racial Frigate and the Racial Weapon type, you can still train for anything you want.

Yeah, race no longer matters, like in the past you had many people rolling Achura characters who had the best spec's for trading. Today that no longer matters, go with what your eye pleases the most.

Things have changed and essentially the only difference is for RP purposes. You get no more than a day headstart (if even that) by choosing any particular race. CCP has done a good job to make no race particularly bad for pve or pvp. In the end you'll be flying all race's sub caps anyway.

Generally Minmatar since kiting and speed work so well still although there is a lot said for armour gangs too.

For PVE, both races have strong ships, equally good at tanking, although Minmatar do have the advantage of choosing their damage type whereas Amarr are limited in choice.

PVP... there are too many variables unfortunately.

It's not as clear cut as black or white.

Certainly as far as your actual character goes; aside from some minimal head-start skills in one of the races you should just pick the faction that appeals to you the most. It bears no relevance to the skills you can train.

Whatever you end up choosing, cross training two races isn't such a bad idea for a mid to long term goal.

ya i did that with my main. he can fly a lot of gallente ships. thanks for the help guys! i like that you can choose dmg with the matar but i also like not using up ammo with the amarr. saving money matters to me in the beginning anyway until i can just make my own ammo. but since nothing really matters anymore i guess i'll just close my eyes and click on one!

Note that your character race doesn't limit your skills to fly ships from other races in any way. So I suggest choosing the race just by your own taste (look, clothes etc.).

Don't be scared, because being afk is not a crime.

Amarr, why? Well they enslaved almost every race they've ever encountered... conquered a new planet and called it their home.. ooh yes and "FREAKIN LAZORS"

Another reason would be... The Gold Brick of Death

The race of your character is less important that the ships you fly or weps you use. Training up frigate and basic small wep skills of any race is both quick and cheap.

Going Amarr military route instead of Matari just because of the ammo cost is myopic at best. Autocannons beat pulse lasers any day, and arties will be way better than even tachyon's if you are planning to shoot anything with high EM or thermal resistance. Both the cost and volume of projectile ammo is a minor inconvenience, far outweighed by this advantage.

We are not amused...

It's completely unimportant. The difference is about 12 hours worth of training time when you decide you want to fly something besides what they give you.

The only reason to be picky about race is the avatar options.

I initially crosstrained from Caldari to Amarr when I was fed up with spending Isks to buy ammo for missions..
T 1 Lazor-crystals do not deplete, so they save you some money if you run lots of PVE missions (eventually you will learn how to use Scorch and never look back, although these crystals do deplete).

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.
