We all started EVE at some point, naively believing we were decent when we trained battleships and big guns, bought a plex to fund a battleship, and promptly got said battleships ass kicked into future lolmail status, but I often wonder when the tipping point will come, where people realize "yano, I'm so far behind every other player in this game, and i'll have to sub this account for (however long newbs believe they will have to sub account to easily make a plex worth of isk a month) that its not even worth it", which is a realization they could easily come to near the end of the 14 day trial period.. Being as the games about 10 years old now, how long will it be before more trials than not end in uninstalls?

and most importantly, is that the time eve will start dying? I wonder about it alot, what kind of system could be implemented to "close the gap" for new players without alienating the existing player base? don't know why i waste my brain power trying to solve a problem that won't make ME any money.. but I guess its cause I like the game, and would like it to be around and still populated in 5 or 6 years (should I still be playing) and the players that are starting out today or next week or next year would be the ones around at that time. its hard to enjoy a cutthroat business when your competitor has a chainsaw and all you've got is a plastic spork, is CCP ever gonna hand these lads at least a butterknife?

Man, with all the ship rebalances, new crimewatch, and all the new things newbs can do now as opposed to , say, 2 years ago.......CCP has already done it.

Hell, our corp has a newb pilot who just came off trial about 2-3 months ago and he's already PLEXing his account......he does the trade stuff, goes into lowsec, makes tons of space cash.

I hate his guts....Cry

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

You want to know what immorality in EVE Online looks like? Look no further than Ripard "Jester" Teg.

Wot? I sold my first battleship on the marketplace after dabbling in some incursion work. I hate battleships, too slow.

On that note, I also believe incursion mechanics are a little too exclusive and should be reworked to include roles for fast frigates and destroyers. Not nerf incursions, but maybe add a few sites where they can be useful so frig pilots like me can actually participate in incursions without having to get out a lumbering BS with all the moves of a whale.

Something like the current skill system will work perfectly.
In fact, it already does.

I guess what I'm saying is: what gap?

I think EVE has already reached it's prime. For the sake of what you are saying, the success rate on rope a dope newb in EVE is .1% For every fool like me who sucks at EVE and keeps playing 999 just leave after a month. This game is not super complex.

Gank.

You just cracked EVE. No matter what people try and convince you, no matter how many examples of things that happened in EVE a gank would have made it all not happen. -A- built a T3 super fleet and got ganked by junk and lost it. Raiden built a T2 super fleet back in their day and got ganked and lost it. You can take every win scenario and make it a loss scenario with three words.

I Got Ganked.

10 years ago, few people knew EVE was really that black and white. Today, everyone knows it. EVE grows because they give the game away to Alts and one month newbs.

i'd venture to say you know 99% more about EVE than a brand new player.

Indeed, one of the beauties of EVE is that a 3 day old player can make a difference, there are no 'gaps'.

Incorrect.

There is no gap that the game needs to compensate for. Not knowing what you're doing is either soething that newbies get over after playing a little while, or it is something that no-one ever fully gets over because of the dynamics of the game. Either way, it's not a gap.

So really, what gap?
