Wiki Preferences Page Broken? (Dev Love Pls)

Dear website team,

The preferences page for the eve-online wiki, a.k.a. the-place-I-have-to-go-to-change-to-my-primary-character-every-time-I-log-on-to-the-wiki, isn't loading (for me).

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Special:Preferences

Please,
A.) check into why:

  • "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."
  • and IE never completes loading

B.) fix it so that the server remembers my character at log in... (the option to do this is in the preferences page... and doesn't work even when the page does)

Thanks

P.S.
Is anyone else getting this error or is it just me?

Bump

http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Special:Preferences (still broken)

Tried multiple machines at multiple locations.

Safari: something along the lines of: Infinite redirect detected. This error often occurs when a page redirects to a page which redirects to the original page.

Please fix this...

Thanks

But, a friend found a workaround.

Apparently the "Opera" browser is able to overcome the issue and resolve the target page.

After logging in using Opera and navigating to the preferences page, any changes that you make to that session will persist in Firefox (not sure about other browsers). So you needn't continue using Opera after this point.

Happy editing... *goes forth to bask in the warm glow of wiki articles, then pauses thoughtfully and turns...*

*edit: Apparently your account also has to have once logged into another eveonline site to get past the wiki log-in... i.e. log into the forums, account management ect. and get past log-in "verification" before you try and log into wiki (once should be enough). (see post #18 below)

That's pretty bad when Dev's can't even take the time to look and post a little reply?

Hell, even an ISD or CCL member could of at least said something like - Thanks for the info, the appropriate department has been notified..

Anyway, the problem still exists and needs to be fixed asap.

Thanks, guess I can use this workaround fix. I must say having to download various other programs just to change the settings / preferences for Evelopedia is definitely not 'USER FRIENDLY'.

Just wanted to say that the 'workaround' worked. Was able to switch and save specific character. I also clicked the 'keep me logged in on this computer' option in Evelopedia and then saved my settings.

Thanks for the info.

I wonder if deleting the Opera browser will cause the Evelopedia Preferences page in Firefox to revert back to not showing the saved settings.

Well, I'm not gonna take that chance and find out. I'll just keep the Opera browser in case I need to access the Evelopedia Preferences page again.

You should definitely hold on to it, it looks like the settings time out after a few days: also good for the odd crash or restart.

It's a bit later then should have and I apologise for that.
But I have personally confirmed the problem and notified CCP about it. I also pointed out this thread.

Unfortunately I'm not in a position to tell you when this will be tackled, but at least now you know it is going to be looked at.

Edit: And thanks for bringing it up!

Just gonna repost my reply from another thread pertaining to this issue which hasn't been resolved yet.

Seems the workaround of using the Opera browser to influence Firefox no longer works. In the Opera browser I can still load the Preferences page, change characters and save settings.

Since I can no longer edit / create Evelopedia pages with this character using the Firefox browser, it looks like I'll have to use the Opera browser from now on. Obviously this is not a solution, just a means to an end.

By the way, the Evelopedia pages in Firefox browser now shows this characters portrait (DeMichael Crimson) while listing my alt characters name.

Ugh

EDIT:

Guess the Firefox browser was caught in Time Dialation until I re-opened it cuz it's now showing this characters name in the Evelopedia log in.

I am having the same problem...tried in Chrome, Firefox and IE...in Chrome it tells me "redirect loop...clean out your cookies" which I did to no avail. The other browsers just time out.

I am brand new to Eve, and have not been able to access the evelopedia user preferences even once.

Hoping someone can resolve the issue...

The "Opera" browser workaround is still working for me. Give it a try.

Yeah, confirming Opera Browser workaround does indeed work.

Ok I have tried the workaround, and still can not login. When I login at the top the Wiki take me to "Special Page" with a login screen. When I try to login there it just returns to the login again.

Need Help Please....

Bumping this thread up due to the issue is still active.

Not to mention it's very irritating. Come on CCP, get the lead out already.

Cat, I get the results you describe when I enter a username and password for an account which has not been verified by the log-in system. I.e. if you have gone through a log-in (in eve-gate for instance) and it asked "what is the name of a character on this account" as a security question. Then you should be able to log in to the wiki. If you have not done that, the wiki log-in page redirects endlessly.

This verification may be needed on a per-computer (or perhaps per-IP) basis. Try first logging in the account your are trying to use at a few of the other Eve-online log-in locations... such as eve-gate, account management, api-key mangement... ect. After you get past the security question, you should be able to log-in to the wiki. (probably...)

Thank you very much. Logging into the forums, and using the link to Evelopedia from there, got me logged into the Wiki. Even using Firefox.

But if you are logged in, and open a new page the login fails.

Thanks for the help.
