Billions of star systems is what I would expect from a simulated galaxy. In contrast eve-online's hardware limited universe with only a few thousand systems.

I am in for £80.

I want to see the game made.

Less than £100K to raise now and only 3 days left to get the game cheaper than retail.

EVE is running all star systems at all times, whereas in Elite unused systems are not simulated in any way to be able to cope with the load. Having less systems also means that players are more likely to run into each other - I can guarantee you that if a multipayer game ever simulated billions of star systems, no player would ever meet another. Even if everyone who is currently playing any mmo in the world would join this game they would still have over 5000 star systems all to themselves, on average.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

Over the top. £1263000+

I personally doubt we'll actually see this hit teh shelves, but I've tossed my few pounds down the rathole anyway - Worth it as tribute to the Elite-that-was, alone. If I get a game out of it, so much the better.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Started off enthusiastically backing.

Read this by Braben.

"What I want is the sort of game that you play with PVP enabled, so players can kill other players, but it happens only very rarely."

Withdrew funding.

Think that quote is out of context with the intention of the game. Here's the text from right at the top of the Kickstarter page:
"Take a ship and 100 credits to make money legally or illegally - trade, bounty-hunt, pirate, assassinate your way across the galaxy".

David Braben is just concerned about excessive griefing.

About £100K was pledged yesterday to take the project over the £1.25m line.

Now moving on to stretch goals and it is about £60-70K to get the Mac version made (PayPal contributions not included in the Kickstarter total).

Perhaps.

Is risk less pvp fun though? You can just roll back to a "save position" if you loose.

Also this http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=3022 . 32 player maximum multiplayer.

Not for me.

I think most people backing this weren't planning on multiplayer anyway 0-o
