How viable is it to look to invest amounts under 1b? Lately my isk has been going to Somer as soon as I make it, keeping my wallet hovering around 100m. I would like to look into making investments instead of blinks with this isk. But I see all these advertisements for loans of 1b+ and am curious as to how viable an expectation it is to try and invest 100/200m.

Blinks are as much as in investment as walking around the city looking for money on the floor is a job.

might be fun, but far from an investment.

if you are looking to invest under 1b, you can. but keep in mind the returns will be very small. i would recommend you commit "blocks" of 100m to different commodities, that way i would suggest a minimum investment of 600m. any less would make your portfolio too narrow. if you invest 400m, there's a chance you could walk out with your capital deprecated down to 60% - 70% if your picks are the wrong ones, with a larger portfolio the chances of such debacle is much smaller and even if you get screwed by your own inexperience, you can still walk out with 80% - 85% of your original capital on a worst case scenario.

keep a VERY close eye on the returns each "block" is giving you, and be ready to cash out from them as soon as you see a steady depreciation on any, and switch to another, you cant afford to "wait out" cycles. so make sure you pick commodities that belong to different production chains. and keep a daily accounting, it might look like too much trouble, but it will pay off on positive returns, low risk and lots of learning trough observation. make sure that what you see is really whats happening, the eve market is very prone to manipulation.

bottom line is, as a far as returns, you will get them, but they will be small and your portfolio wont be as diverse, so get in, make your profit goal a 40% increase on original capital and then get out before things turn around on you. use your gains to reinvest, this time in 200m blocks.

the idea is to minimize your loses and maximizing your learning, profits come later.

Gabling is only for the ones who know how to beat the system then walk away.

To risk everything, means its not an investment.

When I was starting out, I'd put 80m ISK or so into a minerals buy order, and then when it filled put it up for a sell order. Made about 1m or so each time I turned the 80m over, took about 30 mins to do it. Back then it was good change for little risk. Of course, to be able to do this, you need to have relatively small tax burden.

Giving your ISKs to anyone who isn't your alt at the promise he will return it is like letting your 16 years old dauther to spend a night with her 19 years old boyfriend. Just someone will be f*cked.

And when it comes to billions i dont even trust my own alts.

I think I may have led you to believe that I was thinking Somer to be an investment, it's obviously not. Somer is a gambling addiction to which I have sent far too much isk, and I am looking for somewhere to invest the isk. I am not looking to do trading, I was asking as to the viability of thinking I could find a bond/loan that I could invest in for amounts at or under 100m. I have recently seen a few threads looking for 50m bonds and the like, so I guess if I had just watched a little longer I could have answered my own question.

The idea of a higher entry Barrier simply makes the interest & payments, simpler to calculate and distribute easier to do. As you can imagine the work trying to track 100 ppl's payments for a 10b bond, mistakes can happen, for eg the bond issuer can send isk to the wrong name like 'Ngia leo'.

From memory Raw had some fun with names in the past... or was it liberty eternal..... /me shrugs
