Bare minimum drake for Missions?

Hello. I am trying to skill up for a drake so I can run missions more safely/reliably, but I also want to squeeze in the rest of the cruiser and BC skills before that change gets made.

I was hoping to get som insight on which skills are absolutely essential to having a mission-capable Drake (level 3 at least, 4 preferable) so that I can focus on those other ship skills while I still can.

Should I prioritize T2 missiles? HML or HAM? Or is a T2 tank more important? Would it be best to keep T1 weapons, but get the supports higher instead?

I am coming from a mining/production background, so I have very little in terms of weapon skills. I will be training missiles from nothing, and only have base tank skills right now.

Also if anyone could recommend a basic but effective fit I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

Tl;dr I am looking for a Drake fit that I can rush into but still use, while I focus on other skills for a bit.

No matter how good you get the DPS on a Drake, your only chance in level 4s will be tank. Additionally, t2 tank will be faster to train to than t2 missiles and more applicable for other ships; so basically, go for tank.

Missile support skills are more important than going the fastest route to t2.

If you are unfamiliar with tank types, you have active (which applies to shields and armor, in which you run repair systems using capacitor), buffer (which applies to shields and armor, and is based around having as much effective hp as possible) and passive (which applies only to shields, and is based around maximizing your tank per second using only your base shield recharge rate). The Drake excels at passive tank, or partially passive tank, in which you use Core Defense Field Purgers in the rigs, Shield Power Relays (and in some cases a damage control) in the lows, and a combination of shield extenders and active or passive hardeners in the mids. This will combine improved shield recharge rate with improved damage resistance and on the Drake can make for very impressive tank per second. Note also that your shield recharge rate peaks at around 1/3 shields, which can be a little bit of a shock for someone used to active tank - you're more likely to hover around 30-80% shields than you are to stay at 100%.

I would suggest starting with t1 field purgers in all rig slots, t2 shield power relays in all lows, three active hardeners in the mids (two of each rat's primary type and one of their secondary) and the rest of the mids filled with large shield extenders, either t2 or meta 4. If you don't have good capacitor skills you may need to adjust this slightly for a comfortable capacitor level, but note that you'll lose tank/second for switching to passive hardeners. For level 3 missions and some level 4 missions in which you require less tank, you'll want to switch some of the lows out for t2 ballistic control systems and some of the mids for support modules to improve damage.

Anything up to (and including) level 3's should be easy enough only using T1 meta 4 items. I know I ran a all T1 drake for the longest time when I was a newbro.

A drake just isnt going to be able to balance between dps and tank for level 4's and still be able to do them in a timely manner.
If you are going to a drake, you might as well make the leap to a Raven or a Tengu for 4's.

Use the eve survival guide and fit for mission specific resists before each mission.

Drake is 4/6/8 Low/mid/high.
I am pretty sure I used to run 3 ballistic controls, and a Shield power relay. You can swap them to taste as the missions calls. Might want to do 2 and 2 at first and carry 1 extra of each. Or even 1 BCU and 3 SPR.

Use heavy missile launchers, drones can help you with any small ships you cant hit well.

For the mids, I ran a 3 slot tank. 2 mission specific and one energized membrane for blanket resists, unless you come up against a harder mission you cant do.
Fill the rest with large shield extenders.

Fill out the launcher slots, and you can add a drone damage or something in the spare high if it fits. Maybe a tractor to speed up grabbing loot for missions that require it.

Rigs to taste, but medium defense field purgers are a safe bet.

Its been a long, long time since I flew a drake. So I might have some of that info wrong.

I currently run a Drake. I am going to T2 tank first. He is my fit.

High:
7x HMLs
Tractor
Med:
AB
2x LSE
2x Mission specific hardeners
TP
Low:
3x BCS
SPR

Rig:
2x Purger
Extender

I have no drone skills so I don't really use them except to break aggro for a few seconds. They get targeted and popped instantly. Anyways I do lv4s in this and do fine. The TP and middle guidance skill at 3 does fine to kill all frigs in a half shot and elite frigs in 3-4. You can change for one more hardener and another or two SPR. Keep the AB it helps tank BS greatly, sometimes manual flying is needed.
