Long time reader, first time poster.

Ok, not exactly true.

So, looking at my mega load out. Now I use 425mm Prototype Gauss, and was wondering, would changing to to 350s or some other side work out better, or as well?

Obviously, when I do level 4s I don't have much trouble but the frigates are a pain. If there are too many of them, they chew up my drones. But trying to hit them with a 425mm is a bit rough.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

There is little to no chance any battleship sized railgun will hit a frigate. It will need to be double/triple webbed.

Long story short: Keep killing the BS and keep loosing drones. Hell, fit an armor rep in your spare hi-slot if it bothers you that much.

Thanks Maell, I can kill frigates if they happen to be at range. In fact I one shot them. But, once they get in 25km or closer, I am hosed, well not hosed. They don't hit hard enough to hurt me, I am just coming back to the game after a few years off so wasn't sure how much had changed.

Once frigates are close, BS guns aren't going to hit them without lots of webs and/or TPs. You need to volley them at long range.

However, the most correct answer to this thread is to switch to a domi.

You could fit the last slot with a missile launcher. The mega has a launcher slot after all (for the love of god why?)
Wont do you much Good though since its dps will be pathetic.
2nd option would be to kite the frigs but that's a bit hard with a slow bs. You could fit a mjd and keep your range that way, pop the frigs while they approach again.
You could take along 2 flights of lights and a flight of meds and release them when the frigs are on you. Takes less time to get them in your dronebay again.
Or as said above me, switch to a domi.

pop the frigs first when they are at range and approaching you, then go for the big stuff. between 425 and 350 you wont see any difference vs frigs and you lose the damage vs the big boys

I am trying to do them at range, it does work really well. However, sometimes you get dropped into a mission withing 10k of them, and while you try to move out, they just keep with you.

i will keep playing with it, I have a Navy Domi as well that I can use so might go that route.

Thanks for the comments all.

Still trying to get back into the game, four years a lot has changed.

Actually it has it exactly for the anti frig fight. A simple rocket launcher there will kill anything frig size up to 13 km. If only geddon had a launcher point too Cry

If you can fly BS, then MJD is your best friend for lvl 4 missions. 100+km is enough to quickly snipe out all frigates (and even those nasty spider drones) and then continue to bigger and slower ships.

So he can make his tracking worse?

Sigh. Short range ammo for long range guns now gives a tracking bonus. It's been that way since the hybrid changes.

i've had some success with downgrading to t1 drones. just buy a badgerload of them and restock between missions.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I doubt a single rocket launcher will break an elite frig, which are the only kind you need to worry about killing. I'd rather have a rep for my drones.

350s make hitting the smaller stuff a little easier. Even cruisers get to be a pain for 425s when they get inside 18k. Tracking computer (w/ tracking script), tracking enhancer and drones are your friends. If you stay with the mega, drones are your best option for killing frigates. You could downgrade hull size (T3 or T2 cruiser/BC) and use medium guns.

I like 350's myself.

I can hit the frigs up to 25km with out a trackingcomp do to ship bounces.

With trackingcomp scripted for tracking 20km.

I also use Targetpainter tech 2 and I can keep cliping them upto 18-19km depending on the speed of the frig.

Bounces all cruisers even the close one's toasty.

Frig's that get in under 18km not a problem they will get closer when there 15km and closer I start releasing the ddrones on them.

Recall your drones every frig and release after every kill under 15km and you will stop lossing drones.

Also Drone Durablity skill helps alot.

Is it a rock point a lazer at it and profit. Is it a ship point a lazer at it and profit. I dont see any problems here.
