What you are seeing is the product of discipline and control oriented family hierarchy. Every culture has those sorts of parents.

Some are affluent enough to hire Capsuleers to chase down their children's new lovers... so, things like this happen.

One family with friends in high places is enough.

Social constraints are part of almost every culture when it comes to marriages. Be it in the Amarr Empire, the Caldari State, the Gallente Federation, or the Minmatar Republic, all in their own flavor.

Most answers have already been given. But there is one point that's important to add to the equation.



The key to this issue is freedom. We don't value freedom as you do, we value duty and being in the propper place and doing what is good for something bigger than you: the Empire, the family, etc. That woman has to marry the man her family has chose, just like the man has to marry her, not because she has no freedom, but because she has a duty to her family and such a marriage will probably benefit it in such a way. Running away only to follow her own egotistic desires is to let down all that surround her, and weaken the position of all the members of her family, harming them all. And putting herself above everyone else is a mistake few should be allowed to make.

Discussions have been made for a marriage arrangement for myself, in fact. At this point the process is stalled, and may not resume, but it is still a possibility. We do practice these sorts of things in the State.

Minmatar women bethroted to the child of another tribe or sub clan to further improve or strenghten relations between both clans, forbidden marriages between rival tribes, or just weddings forbidden or decided solely based on Voluval compatibility.

Caldari weddings arranged between two suitable parties to ensure both man and woman are compatible, or between the same social stratifications, or marriages concluded out of contracts of various sorts.

Amarr weddings for the sake of political alliances and as a way to climb the social ladder.

Gallente weddings frowned upon based on the wealth of the other party, or just its ethnicity. Even if I have to admit that it seems to me less systematic in a Nation where individual liberties are often the primary concern.

But families are families and often overprotective, no matter the culture.

As the widow of a wonderful man who happened to be born in the Federation, I feel the compulsion to chime in here.

Once again, the operative word to consider here is "seducer." Such impropriety is indeed considered very inappropriate and highly offensive to the Amarrian culture. Call us prudes if you like, but there are some things that even the most liberal amongst us know that you simply do not do.

Why was my own situation different? For one, my husband was not some fly-by-night holostar just looking for cheap sexual thrills. He was, in fact, the quintessential gentlemen, very well educated, and - this is the important part - he had adopted the Amarrian Faith. It was a lengthy courtship & quite formal, as should be expected.

Any parent of any nation would be quite concerned about their daughter running off with an obvious scoundrel. For my own family, however, my suitor knew our ways & customs and had no qualms about following them. So he did not "steal" me away from anyone. It would be more fitting to say that I stole him, if one were to look at things in that colored lens.

So let this situation serve as both hope & a warning to those seeking the affections of an Amarrian woman: Yes, you most certainly are welcome to court, woo and even marry into Amarrian families. Those who adopt our Faith and culture as generally treated as equals one and all. There is nothing wrong with this. But don't expect to go bed-hopping in the Empire, no matter how rich, famous, or clever you think you are. If you want an Amarrian woman in your bed you better be prepared to be there with her for the rest of your life. To do otherwise is to invite... well, this sort of inglorious end happening to you.
