Have you tried Google?

Can't you just remap the f-buttons in-game to whatever they are now?

Gosh that must be frustrating. On my laptop F1 is 'External Screen' which when pressed turns off the screen, and F2 is 'Wifi Adaptor'.. which has you can imagine, is highly entertaining to press when playing internet spaceships.

I wish you luck fellow capsuleer.

There'll be an option for this in your BIOS somewhere. Your computer will briefly say which key to press to get there ("press f8 for SETUP) when you start it. Try not to break anything, though it's a simple enough menu normally.

Alternatively you could just google how to get into the BIOS of your specific laptop.

On my computer this is easily changed in systems preferences/keyboard. I run Mountain Lion though and your OS might be different.

fn lock is the option you are looking for, either in bios, a keyboard key itself like numlock etc. Google your specific model.
