Hey, I just finished the advanced military missions/tutorial and I got a ship that looks like it would be good for a drone boat? I dunno. Looks like it can carry 5.

The Tristan
Gallente Frigate skill bonus per level:
7.5% bonus to Small Hybrid Turret tracking speed
10% bonus to Drone tracking and hitpoints

I dunno but some of the guides I have seen have different bonuses to this ship from what I see in game right now. (no real current build on it)

Seems like 5 drones + Drone Link Augmentor(Dunno if I could even lock on target at that range yet) ..You could stay far away and let the drones do all the work?

Thoughts on how you would use this ship considering I am very very new to the game.

Thanks and Happy Holidays

If you want a cheap drone boat that you can fly, I'd suggest the new tier two destroyer... Algos, was it?

All of the frigates and cruisers were completely redone recently, so every guide you read is completely useless now. Yes, the Tristan is a drone ship. The way you described is more or less how you might use it, though i'd probably speed tank a bit and smack rats around myself to keep their attention off of the drones, or use railguns to help out from afar.. Make an immediate push for Drones V so you can train Drone Interfacing and some of the other drone skills. Drone Interfacing is huuuge for a droneboat pilot.

What do you want to use the ship to *do*? That's going to affect how you set it up.

And yeah the Algos is nice but the Tristan will be better at some things than the Algos.

Depends on what you want to do.

If you want to keep doing missions / other forms of PVE I will suggest you to move to destroyers. Since you are talking about the Tristan, the Algos is probably the best choice for you.

I dont have a algos fit for PVE, but a rail fit is probably the best choice. Fit a AB and a web in mids, a Damage control and armor repair in the lows and some railguns in the highs. Fill in whatever you need (capacitor mods, speed mods or dmg mods) in the remaining slots.

Use your range as an advantage and use it as your defense. If you let too many rats get too close you will be overwhelmed by dmg and your railguns will have problems tracking them. But dont go too far either so your railguns wouldn't be able to hit. Remember to manage your drones. If they get attacked, call them back. The rats will switch to them sometimes.

If you want to go down the drone line then yes, you should use the Tristan as your early mission frig, aim for something like this:
[Tristan, Early Missions]

Small Automated Carapace Restoration
Emergency Damage Control I
Drone Damage Amplifier I

Experimental 1MN Afterburner I
Eutectic Capacitor Charge Array
Eutectic Capacitor Charge Array

150mm Compressed Coil Gun I, Antimatter Charge S
150mm Compressed Coil Gun I, Antimatter Charge S
[Empty High slot]

Small Drone Speed Augmentor I
Small Hybrid Locus Coordinator I
Small Hybrid Burst Aerator I

Hobgoblin I x5

It's just something rough I threw together, it should fit with your skills, if not I'd suggest removing the rigs and using armor/cap rigs to save on fitting. You should use this by kiting the rats outside their range to mitigate damage, the extra high can be fit with any utility tractor/salvager, I don't recommend drone link augmentor as even with decent skills your drone control range should be more than your lock range.

As said above, get drones V asap not really for the extra drone but because it unlocks Drone interfacing which gives a whopping 20% increase in drone damage per level which equates to an extra drone worth of damage.

drones are a double edged sword, especially since retribution. if i were you, i would at least take a look at the other weapon systems before i commit to training one of them.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Weapon systems meaning? Like just run all guns and fight without drones?
Been dioing that with an Incursus but wanted to explore what this other ship would be like to see which style of combat I prefer.

Double-edged swords are awesome, since you can hit into two directions. Hybrids+drones is a very good combo for a solo or small gang pilot, and Gallente ships are in stellar shape at the moment.

Dato posted a solid PVE fit, put that in pyfa/EFT and upgrade to T2 whatever you can, and take it for a spin!

Yeah, I put it in EFT lastnight and was just .15 short on powergrid. So, I trained eng lastnight to get it to where this will fit today.

Thanks for the help.

there are implants that increase your cpu and powergrid. if you do not intend to get pod killed, you may want to get some of those.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Hey, I wanted to say thanks for the loadout and I have used it for a couple days now. I Love it.
I will have Drone5 in 14hrs.

One thing I would LOVE to know..
How can I show my drones on my ui so I can see their HP? So, I know if I need to recall em asap.

Thanks again and cant wait to see the diff with Drone Interfacing..Looks like each level is like gaining another drone. 20% dmg x 5 drones.

The little window you use to launch and recall your drones. Once drones are in space open up the tree so you can see them individually. You will see three bars - shield, armor, structure - for each drone. PRESTO!

Good luck.......
