Yes it will technically work.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

If your Monitor was almost horizontal it might not be too bad. Actually, could prove to be much easier to manage than a mouse. On the other hand, it would probably take some getting used to, and the keyboard requirement might make things a bit awkward when you need it.

Maybe CCP could implement UI options for Touch screen that allowed a on-screen keyboard when you entered a designated field. Could be interesting.

I approve of touch screen PCs for Eve. The thought of me infuriating someone to the point where they rage pound their screen makes me laugh.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I had eve running on a Cintiq (the pen input/art tablet) ...good for lols for 20sec

potentially very dangerous. there's a high risk of concord intervention

things like hot locking seemed to happen unintentionally.

As per the above, I've used a similar iPad app to control my PC. Great for doing some stuff, and fine for some Eve stuff but not great for any form of combat.

Tried a touchscreen PC; did work but there were considerable (gaming) limitations. Also the performance sucked for the PC.
In the end I sent it back and got a very large laptop with separate graphics chips - this rocks.
I have used IPad via VNC on my main gaming PC; with worked for semi afk mining (had to run into the other room when rats popped up).

I've been playing on a touchscreen Win 7 PC for the last year.

Great for bimbling around, giving your arms a bit of a stretch, etc. - NOT a great idea for combat.

Did a couple of missions using it purely for the giggles.

Amusing for manual steering.

The choice of input options does add a nice sci-fi feel though so can add nicely to immersion.

Not for your arms, no, but it will then be horrible for your neck instead.

Touch screens have their uses — continuous use of a modern UI is not among them. It provides an intuitive form of input for some navigation and for things such as painting (cf. Cintiqs and the like) since it provides 1:1 input and emulates a pre-existing analogue technique.

EVE, on the other hand, is still Excel in space. P

Will this work with eve ?

Try this simple experiment at home:

  1. Log in to EVE
  2. Tap your finger at the first module on the top row for five minutes
  3. Use PTT on your voice comms to tell yourself that "niarja is primary" or something equally soul-enriching and deeply meaningful
  4. Remember to broadcast targets, or lock the broadcast targets, making sure to tap the appropriate parts of the screen before interacting with them using the mouse
  5. Having spent five minutes tapping the screen, leave the computer and try making a cup of tea (or coffee, or Milo or whatever your favourite hot beverage is)

How do you feel about touch screens now?

The UI of EVE is far too complicated (and the UI elements far too small) for EVE to be easily controlled using a touch screen. In my case, the screen itself is a good three feet away from my seat: I can't touch it without getting up from my seat.

edit: PS: don't forget to clean the fingerprints off the screen when you're done. The longer you leave them on, the harder they are to clean.

I am thinking of getting one of the upcoming Windows 8 tablets or a laptop or a small portable desktop like the Alienware x51. It would act as the main computer at one home and the secondary/alt computer at the other.

Would be great if CCP would share any upcoming plans for tablet support...hint, hint.

You will love the fact you can actually set weapons to activate when you punch the screen.
Or when you give the middle finger.
Whatever makes you feel better
