Bounty Scamming?!

Hey,

I just saw that some of my chars, even alts that no one ever sees, got a bounty on them, always the minimum 100k.

Not that I could not care less, but I looked at who gave those bountys, and all of them had a rather high bounty themself, and as I looked again after a few days, it did rise on them by a fair amount.

Looks like many people put minimum bountys on random people to get bounty on themself in return, so they can kill themself with a alt and cash it in.

How does bounty payout work now?
(I just skimmed it in the patch notes, as I dont care for bounty in general.)

You can't make a profit killing yourself for the bounty anymore.
Read the Dev Blog about it for details.

Can't cash in bounties like the old system.

Bounty is now paid out as a percentage of a loss (like 20%) so you'll never make the full ISK back that you lose in getting yourself blown up.

Also, what the OP posted still wouldn't be a scam.
Additionally, people are putting 100k bounties on everyone just for laughs due to the initial hilarity. Some other people also got really mad about it, thus causing more people to do it.

Yea, not a "scam" exactly, though, getting free ISK from people one way or another is what I'd call a scam! ;)

So why do people do that, if it does not pay out?

Edited my post a bit, but people are getting bounty upon them for several reasons:
1) Random bounties (see my post about hilarity)
2) "Friends" trying to get each other killed/hunted more
3) Genuinely trying to get you killed by incentivizing your destruction.

One should count only the value of hull. To implement a system that counts hold content and modules when we already know that players are manipulating the value of certain modules from Inferno is a fudge half done. What?

CCP put in some sort of safety against manipulation. But it turns out the player driven market does it for you. All you got to do is find items that the market has under-valued in its normal ebb and flow. The trick is the Pend insurance value is not the same as the value shown at the bottom right of the inventory window. The only way I know to find the pend insurance value is to blow up a ship.

I bounty people I don't like. Then I get a warm fuzzy feeling every time I get a notification that they died. It makes me happy.

That's rather the best part of the system, it can be used by either side. One would think that the first thing a person would do is check to see how expensive the kill right is, and if it made sense to purchase it... but fortunately there is no shortage of truly stupid people in EvE.

Thanks for all the (helpful^^) replies!

Though I wonder why it includes items in you cargo hold, I remember some exploit with FW that should have told CCP how vulnerable this is...
