Hey so I just started salvaging level 3 missions because I was told the money was top notch but I think I made under 100k from the salvage, what gives?

Level 3 salvage income is so-so. Go for the level 4 missions.

Do you mean salvaging your own mission, or ninjaring someone else's?

How much did the mission reward? Salvage is usually around the same range; depending on the mission and how many wrecks you generate.

Usually people ignore salvage until L4 missions, and it's because they grind level 1 - 3 for the standings, which means as fast as possible / ignore the loot. Their idea is to get to level 4 missions as fast as possible, and then they'll make money.

Supposedly.

While I have not seen anything official I have noticed that if a mission gives good loot, such as against EOM for example, then the salvage is poor, but if a mission is loot poor, then salvage is generally a lot better.

I suspect that there is a balancing effect that tries to make sure that all mission give a similer reward portential when you add the loot and salvage together

I've had up to 3 million in salvaged loot. That was from level 1 missions although that sort of haul is rare. The most recent set of 3 missions I did in my cruiser was 2 kill single enemy missions + a kill lots of enemy mission and I got about 400K in salvage.

Step one after salvaging:

Look at price offered in area you are trying to sell those salvage components? Loog at % below average? You usually have to haul that stuff to tradehub to sell on decent profits, since thats where those manufacturers are buying their materials.

If your super lucky, theres local manufacturer in area offering decent prices...

Second: Salvaging is random. Its chance based if there even is salvage there and then theres that slavage drop table where things get choosen randomly.

I have had those bad runs and then a runs that gave me more then i dreamed on isk after selling it.

So thats % chance you see in info of your salvager is just the chance of you doing succesfull salvaging -> getting in that random draw from salvage table on that type of wreck. Notice that in that table there is also empty slot. So you might still get nothing even if your succesfull on salvage cycle.

I've been doing some very unscientific research on salvaging. I started this spreadsheet (please don't mock my horrible google docs ability):

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkqcqRP0f17RdHZLeEE4YnhacEFfcE9COG5oOERuenc#gid=0

I hope to keep adding to it. It doesn't account for bounties or mission rewards. You can use EvE Survival for that. It allows me to input the estimated amount of each missions salvage, then gives me an overal total and average of each mission level.

As far as what to do with the loot, I tried this approach once, and I think it yielded better overall results, but very well may not be work the time. I amassed ~100mil in estimated salvage, put it in a container and took it to Jita. If something was a horrible seller, I reprocessed it for minerals. I choose 100mil due to how long it would take to go through items and travel to Jita. I took a glance at Dodixie, Rens and Jita. Jita appeared to have better overall sell prices.

1 - Get a Noctis and you can clean up wrecks real quickly.
2 - Stack the lot in a can in your mission station until you have an amount you set yourself - I use 500 million as my base
3 -Make a spreadsheet of salvage using Eve Central and Googledocs to work out whats worth keeping and what to change to minerals at local prices and or Jita.
4 - Profit!

PS - I also have spent a good deal of isk and skillpoints learning how to make rigs to sell. It can be quite profitable if you take the time to work out what sells well in your region. :)

+1, I forgot to mention rig manufacturing.

Nice! Good to see a fellow spreadsheeting newbie. It's useful to see how others are going about theirs. I did my first gDocs Sheet the other day.. I'm rather liking it, it's kinda fun. Mine's toward reprocessing, though. I'd share it too, but... well... Then I'd be giving away my tiny market niche.

I got some questions though; How are you coming to the numbers you get? And what's your goal with this sheet? If you're looking to gain salvage for rigs, does it matter how much you get? Wouldnt you salvage it all either way?

What particular tools are you utilizing Eve Central for? I don't really understand it beyond referencing mineral prices.

Also, what kind of investments or prereqs are there for making rigs?

I'm getting the numbers by looting the complete site and using the 'estimated value' when done.

Goal is just to look for trends and play around with google docs.

I considered parsing out rigs versus all other salvage, but decided against it. Perhaps if my google-spreadsheet skill was V instead of II I would have tracked that.

The site I linked was EvE survival that shows bounties. I'm looking to collect trend data that isn't there.

Hope that answers your questions. Lemme know if I can/should elaborate on them.

Well, today I went to cash in on my current scheme, and watch the numbers. I saw that the estimated value that Eve puts up is frequently wildly different from what the market's reality is. So when I took the time to get the market details on each item I was pricing, my outcomes would've been utterly wrong if I'd used them. I don't think it's because of daily fluctuations, and such... I think its just some kind of bum formula. Though, when I was sitting in Amarr station it was less inaccurate.

When you say salvage, do you mean to include the loot? Or just the results of the salvager mod? 'Cuz I don't get near what you're showing, on my L3's! Or at least it doesn't seem like it - I haven't been properly tracking these figures, so who knows.

Based on what you've seen so far, how much would you reccommend hanging onto your salvage, and making rigs, instead of just selling it? Assuming one does their market homework.

I should have been more clear, I refer to 'salvage' as combined loot + rig mats. Perhaps I should have taken that into account on my spreadsheet.

I stockpile the rig mats then when I can run 10-20 manufacturing jobs without have to buy a lot of extra ones. I works for me, but I wouldn't be surprised if a more experienced player has better advice on this.
