Found this thread ( https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=81809 ) while looking for answers as to why the Steam Overlay doesn't work with a Steam copy of EVE.

There are a lot of things I like to do with the overlay and used to have that ability at least a year ago. Like, all of my screenshots are out-of-date. People probably think I'm a noob! ;D

Anyway, is there anyway to fix this?

As the OP mentioned in the topic I've linked, this isn't about playing in window mode, this is about having access to a community that he or I enjoy.

I think one of my alts flew with Ikurandji's training corp for a while O.o


I think the Steam Overlay can't be used anymore because of some of the Anti Cheating mechanics. Some other games have this problem too. IIRC the Overlay actually has to inject some code to be shown, Which the EVE Client rejects outright.

EVE's got anti-cheat mechanics now? I must've missed that dev blog hah, but I guess that doesn't look good for my screenshot collection on Steam.

Overlay feature of some other software like Raptr (example here) works fine in fullscreen mode.

To OP, your best bet is to post in the Steam forums or directly report this to their support for a fix (if the workaround in the thread you posted doesn't work anymore). After all, it's THEIR job to get THEIR software to work with EVE, not the other way around.

the problem is that the overlay somehow only works on the launcher. Steam thinks that the launcher is the actual game. Therefor the overlay doesnt work in the main game.

just do what I did:

1) in your steam library, add a non-steam game. locate the file in your eve install folder /bin/exefile.exe, select that

2) start up the game via your steam library (the non steam game you just added)

3) viola. working steam overlay in eve
