Corax or Cormorant?

I'm about to go through Caldari advanced military missions to get a Cormorant. But I have doubts whether I should keep it or sell it and get a Corax. Or, if you think it's better, you can recommend me another destroyer. (Just dont recommend Amarr. I had a Coercer and I sold it due do only 1 mid slot. And now I have a Dragoon which isn't really a good ship.)

And a cheap but powerful solo PvP fit recommendation would be nice. I can afford 1.5-2 mil worth of modules.
Thanks. :D

It really depends on whether you want to start with training gunnery or missiles. It sounds like you are early in your career. I would tag both the Caldari destroyers as fleet ships rather then solo. The Cormorant can lock and hit targets past 100km. A typical setup would be:

High:
150mm Rails
Light Launcher if you can fit it.
Mid:
MWD
Sensor Booster x 2
Low:
MFS x 2 or TE x 2 or MFS/TE
Rigs:
Fitting rigs as needed. Damage or projection rigs as your fitting skills improve.

You are in the rear with the beer plinking away while someone else holds the target down. My T2 implanted fit puts 323 DPS out to 23 km or 212 DPS to 83km. I don't have a point though and it's helpless at point blank range. The Corax is never helpless but it won't be able to hit the same DPS high or have the same projection.

OH GOD YOU ARE HIDEOUS! (too)

Shenima,

yes, it all depends on what you want to do with your Destroyer. What ship do you want to fly next? I see that you are Amarr. If it helps you decide, the Coercer now has two mid slots, instead of one.

If you stay with EVE for a long time, you may eventually have the skills to fly many different ships, using launchers or turrets.

So in the short term you may be concerned, but in the long run it may not matter.

Stay away from Corax then. T2 light launchers are 'stupid' expensive for how many you have to mount on the hull. Literally, I have a 30kehp caracal with rapid launchers that is within 1m of the Corax fit in total undock cost. Further, the caracal is within .33s align time, and 440m/s faster under MWD as well.

If T2 light launchers ever go back to being reasonably cost-effective, Corax could be a lot of fun as a harasser though.

Rocket Coraxs are really fun to fly and work well in plex fights. I have mine set up like this (can't use t2 rockets yet Ugh )

Highs:
Prototype Arbalest Rocket Launcher I x7 (Caldari Navy Scourge Rockets)

Mids:
Limited 1mn Microwarpdrive I
J5b Phased prototype Warp scrambler
X5 Prototype Engine Enervator
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II

Lows:
Damage Control II
Ballistic Control system II

Rigs:
Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Small Core Defense Field Extender I x2

Works pretty well and can take down most ships Dessy size and down

I wear my goggles at night.

Any spelling/grammatical errors come complimentary with my typing on a phone

As a couple of notes on Amarr (it looks like that is your base race to start):

1) Don't underestimate the Coercer. It just got a 2nd mid. Also, Amarr lasers really need T2 to shine (scorch) but Coercers with 8 T2 pulse lasers get respect at the least, if not fear in some cases, from most ships Cruiser and below. It does some pretty brutal damage.

2) Amarr has a similarity to Minmatar in one regard, they both require a lot of cross training to be good in all of their ships. In the case of Amarr, you would be looking at training up Drone, Ewar (tracking disruptor and energy vamps / neuts), and missiles. If you do however, you will find that Dragoon to be quite the nasty little pvp boat in fleets, and it will lead to bigger, scarier ships (Arbitrator, Curse, Bhaalgorn later on, as well as a small list of missile based ships).

As to Cormorant vs Corax, the big question is, do you prefer missiles or guns? From a financial standpoint, Cormorant will be cheaper to fit when you hit T2 (still not sure why those t2 LM's are so damned expensive).
