I undertand that eve isnt a game of flight simulation and that ship piloting is not of great concern in large fleet battles. But I had a thought, and because of my lack of knowlage in eve combat know that this could possibly be the worst idea. But what if instead of blob fights you split your blob into squads? That way you then had several fleets survving diferent purposes? Example, a squad to destroy (forgive me im not sure of the real terms.) The ship reping, a squad to destory ranged fighters. Well you get the idea. Is this practicle?

Already used within a single fleet. No need to separate.

most fleets are like this

you have a few commandships for leadership boosts

yoir main dps dealers

logistics/reppers

fast tackles. scouts and bubblers

also sometimes will add in a sniperfleet

and in null you often get a bomber squad. this will be a diffrent fleet. they need there own scout/warpins

Yes it is practical.
It is more less how bigger fleets work.

There are typically,
DPS
Logi
Ewar
Tackle
in many fleets throughout EVE.

There are also 'Fleet Doctrines', where the make up could be
Sniper/Range fits
All T3
All BC
All Destroyer
All Black Ops
etc.

Good idea :) Sorry to say, you are not the first to think of it.
When you hear the term "Blob", it generally refers to a numbers ratio. Like "5 guys got blobbed by 35 guys". But be aware, that 35 man blob may be very organized in fleet composition and strategy.

The ones whose job it is to shoot things, yes - that fits right in with your own description. "The squad to destroy".

If you are in the logistics / repping "squad" you will turn off the broadcasts for "Target" and leave Armor or Shield Rep requests on (depending on type of logistics you are)

Also you can leave the broadcast history on, so that if 3 people ask for reps around the same time, you dont only see the last one, but all 3, and inwhat order they were called in.....you can also clear the list of requests when you feel they all have been repped up,

till they ask again that is

Still i must say fleet UI is about as bad as drone UI still. Man, ill be burned for that idea but have anyone tried to write UI plugin for eve? Ya know, WOW raid style. My experiance with language is not enough for a task, barely wrote an autopilot and half working autoloot scripts :(

As people have already stated; people in a fleet can take on specific roles such as scouting or logistic.. Others will take on a more dynamic role. Quite often the main damage dealing of the fleet will indeed concentrate on specific targets but that isn't to say that there aren't subdivisions doing other tasks. As you point out in your original post, some people would be assigned to focus on taking down logistics or tacklers.

That there are in-game sqadrons and wings within a fleet is not always the way in which an FC will organise his fleet.

The smaller a fleet, the less specialised roles will become. The core of a small gang is tackle/scout and DPS quickly followed by logistics. As fleets get bigger you start to see other elements and subdivisions come into play.
