Confirmed , I run a overclocked rig, its pretty good can play BF3 etc and full settings with over 30 fps. Yet in eve as soon as I go near clouds of gas or what ever, my fps is reduced a hell of a lot. The load put on my GPU and CPU spikes considerably.

The good old days of Unreal Tournament, fragging and sniping on Facing Worlds, listening to Foregone Destruction.......

Shall we keep this going until a developer comments on it?

The devs made some changes to some dust clouds already: you can see different clouds in Massive Attack and Ritualist Raids amongst others. However the gains made from those new clouds are completely obliterated by the new UI - I blame the T-marks around all NPCs which brighten up when that target is within range of the weapon you are hovering over. My current system grinds to a halt (literally, 0 fps or closer to about 15 seconds per frame) when there are more than half a dozen NPCs on field. This is worse in missions with dust clouds.

How many of you still have severe frame rate penalties when sitting in empty mission spaces with clouds? That is, after the NPCs are all dead and the salvaging is completed.

There is still more work that needs to be done, but the art team have done some good stuff so far with sorting out the graphical millstone that is dust clouds in missions.

Please allow an option to disable clouds. The only way to deal with them currently is to zoom way out and then my FPS recovers.

Is this another thing the devs refuse to pay attention to as compared to updated spelling errors that have in some cases been in place for years? Or heaven forbid making major changes to frequently used systems and outright breaking them despite warnings?

This definitely needs attention... the only mission cloud I ever cared about they took away (the green space in Recon Pt 3), now all I see is boring space with random junk floating around. Sadly it seems like the devs don't quite have their priorities in the right place (based on several major expansions worth of testing and attempted feedback), so why start now? Why fix something that is actually broken or having a negative impact on current gameplay?

I'm in favor of removing clouds entirely. With the new UI I'm already getting almost double the resource requirements for RAM and CPU load and every time I warp into a mission with a cloud I get a massive FPS hit and have to zoom all the way out unless I want to play "slideshow online."

This is space. It's supposed to be empty so we don't need a ton of clouds or random collideable objects that NPC/players get stuck on.

I wonder how many pages it'll take before CCP acknowledges this. The clouds are literally the only thing I'm having trouble with, everything else is fine; the new UI, the Inventory, the ship rebalancing. I like everything CCP has done, except for the clouds.....damn those clouds.

I have wondered how much work it would be to just have a button that forced say "wireframe" mode or something like that.

I mean, as far as real mechanics, it would just be a custom visualization from the onboard computer, turning every object that it can see and scan, think of it as the difference between a google maps view of the streets compared to a satellite picture ... what we are trying to see is the tactical info, and we don't care/dont want a superbright sun or cloud blocking everything.

The engine already draws everything, and theres lots of options to turn down that detail, so why not adda button IN GAME that basically is a custom much-lower-detail-with-a-twist and call it "tactical"

I absolutely love this idea, it should be a default on tactical mode, after all when you are in tactical mode you need to see what is tactically relevant to your situation as opposed to what objects and clouds really look like. Given the sophistication of shipboard sensors it seems obvious that the tactical mode/wireframe mode would strip that out as unnecessary clutter as it may hinder the decision making process with disastrous results.

Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction...

volumetric effects in this game just plain suck, period. They look bad, and significantly drop frame rates on even high end machines. The inability to turn these god awful effects off is amatuer at best, c'mon ccp...

Also, no offence CCP, I fully understand you were trying to make space prettier, but you have to remember that most of those clouds, being pure white, will basically allow our LCD backlights, which have nothing to do with light in space to shine into our retinas at whatever brightness level we have set.

I just googled "nebulas" and not a single one of them cause my retinas to shut down.

Does EVE even have a gamma slider?

I apparently have no idea what I'm doing.

I completely Agree, i have a reasonable recent machine an i7 950 8GB of ram and a GTX 470...yet i get severe slow downs as soon as i stumble upon certain clouds in mission areas, or even WH.

Redo those gas/dust clouds, make them work properly.

Signed many times over.

This has been brought up before in many threads. However, it appears to never get any response from the devs, so it needs repeating. They need to respond and tell us why they just can't take them out until they figure out some featuer that doesn't tax a computer so heavily. It adds nothing to gameplay and in fact detracts from it when the damn things are so bright they hurt the eyes.

Get rid of the ******* things CCP FFS
