New Faction Ships [Destroyer/Cruiser/Battleship]

I had previously posted these ideas to Reddit, decided to take some modifications to them and repost them here.

Quote:
I was bored at work, had some time to kill. Was looking through the faction ships and it felt really lacking. Everytime we run missions we fight the same 3-4 ship models with different names and it got me thinking about how much I wish we'd get some new faction ships (maybe ones with a rare chance to drop a BPC of themselves? eh eh?).

Decided to take a stab at the listing and put in a new Destroyer, Cruiser, and Battleship for each faction. To note, this isn't a "OMG THEY SHOULD ADD NEW SHIPS RIGHT NOW", this is just a fun place to discuss ideas/concepts about new Faction ships for the day they do add more (probably during/after the Faction rebalance). Also balance/new ships aren't mutually exclusive.

==================================================
Angel Cartel
==================================================

Ishim
Class: Destroyer
Role: Close Quarters Striker

Contrary to traditional destroyer layouts, the Ishim is fitted to be a running ship. For non-combat, the Cartel uses Ishims to run high priority cargo as fast as possible, however in combat the Ishim is built directly for close quarters engagements with opponents, unleashing a hail of bullets directly into the side of a foe while flying circles around them.

Elohim
Class: Cruiser
Role: Mobile Defense Platform

As Cartel combat fleets begin to deploy to protect their assets, they found their fleets lacking in strong arm support. While their ships had the firepower, they severely lacked defensive assets for defending their holdings. Innovations in shield technology resulted in the Elohim, a slow shield tank/artillery platform built for defending chokeholds and specifics locations.

Malakim
Class: Battleship
Role: Support Platform and Gang-Leader

As the Angel recruitment drives have risen, so have the need for powerful leaders. The Malakim was a direct attempt using rumored Jovian technology to integrate pod pilots in powerful gang link networks, enhancing their combat capabilities. In the fringe areas its not uncommon to find a fleet of smaller Dramiels or Ishims being escorted by a captain piloting a Malakim.

==================================================
Guristas
==================================================

Spitter
Class: Destroyer
Role: Long Range Missile Attacker

The first Spitter was designed for a specific incursion into Caldari space, the Guristas had retrofitted a fleet of Cormorants with long range missile systems and had disguised them with Caldari navy signatures. The following bloodbath that followed showed the capabilities of the Cormorant when modified properly. Since then the Guristas field these small, agile missile boats for long range bombardment operations.

Cobra
Class: Cruiser
Role: Close-Quarters Rocket Barge

While a potent design on its own, the Cobra is a heavily modified Caracal, built for close quarters rocket engagements and suicide assaults as opposed to its Caldari Navy counterpart. Many Guristas consider it an honor to pilot such a ship, and those that survive piloting one tend to advance through the ranks of the criminal organization rather quickly.

Boa
Class: Battleship
Role: Missle Bombardment and Support Operations

When capsuleers began piloting the Caldari Raven in large numbers, the Guristas knew they were on to something. The modified Boa is a Raven with most of its shield capabilities ripped out and replaced with support infrastructure and heavier missile support. The result is a ship that can lay down massive bombardments of raw firepower on foes, while also leading smaller fleets.

==================================================
Sansha's Nation
==================================================

Apparation
Class: Destroyer
Role: Close-Quarters Striker and Tackler

As Sansha's incursions into Empire space have become more enforced, so have his fleets. The Apparition is a ship that many capsuleers were entirely unprepared for as waves of them surrounded and locked down their ships then unleashed a hail of fire directly into their hulls.

Possessor
Class: Cruiser
Role: Drone Assault Platform

The Possessor uses modified Jovian technology to unleash a veritable horde of drones onto its foes. The capabilities of it are still relatively unknown to even the most dedicated scientists that have been trying to reverse engineer it. Regardless of its origins, a few Possessors are enough to turn the tide of almost any battle in the favor of Sansha's Nation.

Shade
Class: Battleship
Role: Laser Artillery Platform

Capable of unleashing a barrage of laser fire from extended distances, Shades are a potent powerhouse of Sansha's forces. These battleships are positioned on the edge of space where they wait in ambush for foes who realize too late what is happening.

Blood Raider
==================================================

Beleth
Class: Destroyer
Role: Close Quarters Striker and Capacitor Burner

Stories of fringe pirate raids on colonies and convoys are commonplace in New Eden, but few stories invoke as grim or brutal imagery as ones involving the Beleth. The Beleth is a quick and powerful ship that burns out the power core of nearby ships, leaving their inhabitants stranded in the cold vacuum of space, before ripping them open and cutting apart the ship with close range laser cannons.

Asmodeus
Class: Cruiser
Role: Drone Carrier and Disabler

People in borderworlds always tell tales of Blood Raider hunting parties, and how they bring legions to bear upon a world and its defenders, stripping away everything and either brutally murdering the inhabitants or enslaving them. Chief in these stories is the Asmodeus, a class of ship known for its striking look, and the hoard of drones it unleashes that quickly tear apart anything and everything in its way.

Paimon
Class: Battleship
Role: Gang-Leader and Energy Vampire

As of the hosts of hell ride upon their foes, they must be led and kept on task. The Paimon is an attempt to use refitted Amarr technology to keep the blood thirsty minions of the Blood Raiders in check when they need to be. The Paimon sports powerful technology for locking down foes, while simultaneously improving its allies capabilities and helping them pinpoint the juiciest targets.

==================================================
Serpentis
==================================================

Sentry
Class: Destroyer
Role: Hybrid Artillery Platform

CONCORD is always hot on the heels of Serpentis operations, and in response the Serpentis have begun deploying Sentry-class destroyers at known gates/checkpoints to keep an eye out for anyone who would intervene on their operations. If the Sentry has to intervene, it does so with a powerful hail of railgun fire, and sniper fleets of Sentries aren't entirely unheard of.

Overwatch
Class: Cruiser
Role: Drone Platform and Tackler

Like the Sentry, the Overwatch was designed to keep an eye on opposing operatives to maintain an air of strength over Serpentis holdings. The Overwatch however is more capable in direct combat and locks down opponents before unleashing a horde of drones on them.

Rancor
Class: Battleship
Role: Multiple Assault Platform and Disabler

When Serpentis operatives have to be brought in for combat fleets, they come armed with the best equipment they can buy. The Rancor is a modified Hyperion, outfitted with webifiers, a fleet of drones, and railguns, it is designed to be an all in one battleship for assaulting opposition holdings.

What stats and bonuses did you have in mind? Also you forgot about faction battlecruisers. If we're going to get faction destroyers, I don't see a reason for not getting battlecruisers, since both will be getting racial ship skills.

Well I originally had the third ship as a Battlecruiser (I changed them to ships when I realized I had forgotten BC skills aren't racial, if they're already confirmed they're going to be eventually I'll be fine with bumping them back.).

I had some notes on potential roles written, I might write them back out.

I think having no actual stats is a good thing, as it gives the Devs their own room to spread. Artwork would be nice though.

I could do artwork, was planning on it, its just coming up with designs that are cohesive with current designs..

CCP need to go back and rework the existing faction ships before adding more.

Some of them were never that great to begin with, and the recent frigate and cruiser buffs ate into the market for what little usefulness many of those faction ships had.

Well T1 Cruisers are done, once they do Battlecruisers and Battleships I bet we'll get a faction ship rebalance (again) before they move on to T2 ships...

I would like to see the list of faction ships expanded dramatically myself, maybe have a series of expansions focused on each of the major factions... hmm. That'd be cool.

Incursion II - Sansha further expansion and development, addition of more Sansha ships as NPCs and faction ships.
New Sansha frigates - Incubus-class Combat Frigate and Mara-class Attack Frigate
New Sansha destroyer - Spectre-class Destroyer
New Sansha cruiser - Banshee-class Disruptor Cruiser
New Sansha battlecruiser - Wraith-class Battlecruiser
New Sansha battleship - Shade-class Combat Battleship
New Capital Ships - Phobetor-class Titan... and so forth.

That'd be awesome.

The last thing this game needs is more titans.

However, a faction carrier might be interesting, and it has a broader market and many in that market would pay for the bling of a faction carrier.

But faction titans, or more supers in general is just a big NO.

Unless they make it as crappy (and it literally looks like a turd) as that faction super carrier, so it rarely gets built, and only to be a collectors item.

As said earlier in the thread, the existing pirate faction ships are due a look-over during the rebalancing pass. Looking at the concepts floated by the OP for the various faction ships, some aren't very different from the existing ships of the pirate factions.

For example, the Paimon is a Bhaalgorn, just with vamps instead of neuts. Which is pretty useless given the issues vamps have in general applicability outside the realm of frigs and cruisers vamp-tackling larger ships.

Pirate faction dessies and BC's are floated every so often, and would be a cool addition.

Pirate faction supercapitals...well, the Revenant is rare as hen's teeth and has the same isses as anything which isn't FOTM in capital warfare. It is basically unknown in space - I haven't seen more than a handful of killmails with a Revenant on them.

All that being said, would it be good to have a Blood carrier with ZOMG neuts? Maybe. Would it be good to have an Angel dreadnought with wtfbbq levels of tracking? Yes. Or a Serpentis Dread with wtfbbq levels of blaster DPS? Maybe.

My ideas for destroyers,

The guristas vessels all have a mix of drones missles and heavy tank with drones being the dominant weapon. The guristas destroyer would probably have a resist bonus like the other ships, but having 5 light drones would heavily infringe on the worms capabilities. So give it 6 missles and 2 unbonused drones, making it a tanky frig smasher with low speed.

The serpentis having tracking bonuses and web bonuses seem a perfect fit for a destroyer type vessel. However what would be the point of a daredevil if you have a ship with 8 guns and a web bonus? Being as a tracking bonus on a tracking bonused ship type is redundant, this vessel could get a bonus to active armor tanking at the cost of the crazy powerful weapon bonus the serpentis are known for and keeping its web bonus. The result is an uncrackable vessel the will slowly eat you with no hope for escape.

A blood raider destroyer is a rather difficult thing to balance. On the one hand you have a neut bonus, which is rather powerful at the frigate scale and very scary. Then you have the web range bonus. Having a range bonus to neuts doesn't make much sense when unbonused webs reach its bonused range. So maybe a 25% penalty to neutralizer strength, but have a neutralizer range double that of the dragoon, it slowly sucks dry active tankers and MWD running kiting vessels will be unable to kite for long. At the same time it will have a bonus to web range but lack speed, even if it catches a kiting vessel with double webs it will take awhile to catch up. Give it only 3 mids.

Sansha, active tank bonuses and laser bonuses moving on!

Angel, Its a faster trasher with better stats. Its not as fast as any attack frig 2.5m/s cold, but it is faster than anything else and packs a whallop, a very paper thin tank.

That's something I can agree with as well.

Now that you mention faction Battlecruisers (its #1 in my wishlist, especially Sansha), I would like CCP to implement faction specific skills, i.e. Sansha Battlecruisers, Sansha Cruiser, Sansha Battleship, Angel Cartel Frigate, Guristas Cruiser and so on.

As much as I like the idea, it eliminates the cross-training for the improvements of factional ships, which is one of the things a lot of people really like about them.
