I'm new to fitting battleships out properly and all that jazz, so bear with me here.

I obtained a Maelstrom two months ago, finally was able to pilot it, my skills were not up to par for the task at the time (and still really aren't) and I'm beginning to catch up. I plotted out my next 21 days of skills to upgrade my Maelstrom and to begin swapping my tank to an active shield tank as opposed to my former "mixed" tank that I keep getting flak for.

Here are my two fits.
The SRS Stalin I is my current fit/skill set
The SRS Stalin II is my fit/skill set after the next 21 days

My dilemma primarily is the EHP vs Active EHP vs Signature Radius bit, I don't know how important these numbers are relative to eachother. I lose a TON of EHP (and my capacitor is horrible) in the Stalin II, however its active shield tank is way better and its signature radius is way smaller. I run a lot of missions in this thing, and I don't want to be afraid that if my capacitor drops that I'm going to die immediately because my main shield buffer is horrible.

The DPS upgrade is solely due to the Republic Gyros and Rigs changed over.

Generally use 800mm Autocannons for the Mael.

What is the fit meant to do, is it PvP or PvE? Mixing tanks is never a good idea anyways, so if it's for PvP either go full active, probably with Ancillary shield booster, or go full passive. If it is meant for PvE you shouldn't go for a passive tank at all on a Maelstrom, and only tank the mission specific damage types.

Can't really give too much advice when I don't know the purpose of your fits...

Skip the LSE's/Boos amps and fit hardeners instead.
I'm not sure but it won't affect the boost amount that much and give you way higher resistence instead.

I also prefer artillery for missions

This is what I used for level 4's. It eats pretty much every mission
I assume you're looking for missioning fits?

the guy above me is mostly right. the only addition i would make is that there are some missions where ACs are better than artillery. you will figure out which ones once you have some experience with missionrunning.

I should buy an Ishtar.

PvE, mission running.

I have to disagree with the 'autocannons have less uses'. I fly an AC Mael with an AB and it does it a lot quicker than any arty fit I've tried.

Something like:

[Maelstrom, AC Mael]
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Tracking Enhancer II
Tracking Enhancer II

Republic Fleet 100MN Afterburner <- Really worth it, less cap use and better speed
Shield Boost Amplifier II
X-Large Shield Booster II (deadspace is worth it if you can afford, go for the Pith type)
Mission Specific Hardener II
Mission Specific Hardener II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II

800mm Heavy 'Scout' Repeating Artillery I, Phased Plasma/Fusion/EMP
800mm Heavy 'Scout' Repeating Artillery I,
800mm Heavy 'Scout' Repeating Artillery I,
800mm Heavy 'Scout' Repeating Artillery I,
800mm Heavy 'Scout' Repeating Artillery I,
800mm Heavy 'Scout' Repeating Artillery I,
800mm Heavy 'Scout' Repeating Artillery I,
800mm Heavy 'Scout' Repeating Artillery I,

Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I <- Rigs to taste really. I prefer the CCC so I can tank longer and run AB longer as well
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I

Of course upgrade damage mods to faction if you can, and use faction ammo if you feel it's worth the extra isk/LP

Actually that's almost my exact build I have sitting in window right now lol
