My Eve client has ballooned to 40 gigabytes. I want to wipe it and re-download and re-install the client. Some questions I have:

1. Is there any way to save all my settings... like overview settings, chat room settings, left-eve side bar settings... EVERYTHING. So that I can just import this one setting package and be back to where I was with the new client install.

2. Also, is there a 64-bit windows client? Is this recommended?

3. Why does the Eve client balloon to such a huge size? I have a SSD and I can't afford such a giant client folder.

1. Go to the EVE appdata folder, which, on Windows 7, is C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE. There's a folder named with the path to your EVE installation. If you copy that entire folder elsewhere, and put it back after install, it'll maintain every setting for each account/character. Tip: I would go in and delete the folders named cache_backup. Those backups take a LOT of space.
-Although now that I think about it, isn't there a setting during uninstall that lets you keep cache and settings? It won't clear out the extraneous backups.

2. Just go with the standard installer. I don't believe there's any official 64-bit support.

3. I just did a clean install yesterday, and my folder is at 11.1GB. You probably have just a crap ton of downloaded data lingering, and may be able to avoid re-installing. Two things come to mind.

  • I don't know what the Launcher keeps in the cache folder, but it may be holding on to downloaded data.
  • The launcher keeps patches by default, and I think they're just the .patch files in the base EVE folder. They may be taking up space and just need deleting.
