Best Retribution T1 PvP Frigate Candidate

Hi All,

I started playing EVE yesterday after my friend showed me how the game looked and worked. I know what he knows divided by 10... and since his character only has 1kk SP trained it's probably not much... :) Therefore please, bare with me...

I am interested in the PvP side of EVE and since everybody around is telling me this is NOT a single player/solo game I'd like to focus on that aspect straight away. I am a Minmatar male currently in love with the Rifter. I have seen some interesting PvP fits on battleclinic.com and I'm currently training towards them. However, going through the forums I read that with the Retribution Expansion and the re-design of the Frigates the Minamtar Rifter seems to be "the worst PvP frigateer's choice"... I used EFT and indeed, even with my poor fitting abilities I managed to create a basic fit for the Merlin that had more Resistances, more EHP and more DPS... I understand the idea behind Speed Tanking with the Rifter but is this truly enough? Are the slots and their numbers making up for that? I am sooo confused. com... :/

Either way, if any of you guys (and girls) feels like continuing this conversation in a more or less polite fashion please, feel free to tell me: Which T1 Frigate has the biggest PvP potential at the moment?

I would be grateful for any elaboration too! :)
Thanks!

There is no "best" pvp frigate. Some are better brawlers, some better kiters but in the end it all comes down to who you choose to fight (or manage to avoid!) and how well you execute your chosen tactic, and how well you fit your ship for that tactic.

Some ships fitted certain ways are like rock, paper and scissors to each others- under theoretical, ideal conditions. Now on Tranquility, you can't just fly out in a rock and expect to meet your scissors, and only your scissors and hope that everything goes as planned. The ship you thought was scissors pulled a paper move on you, or was actually fitted like a rock.

So what to choose?

Fly what you like :) Especially the frigate scene is very well balanced. You can pick any combat frig and win (and lose) if you do your thing right.

Max your skills for a limited amount of ships that function in a way that pleases you. Practice. Fight. Evolve. Develop your own tricks. Win.

Well, there is no best in any of ships classes. As previous guy said it's all rock - paper - scissors, right ship for right job + experience + bit of luck.

Rifter was king of frigate pvp, at least that was general consensus of butthurt crowd crying about Winmatar and stuff. In right hands it is still deadly but as usual it depends who/what/where/how.

You could take a look at slasher. Quite a nasty with it's slots layout. And great introduction for interceptors.

Edit: We at BRRC are focused mainly on frigates pvp and solo/small gangs. If you would like to try your fits visit Heild and ask for 1v1, usually one of us will come out and play. Mind you that while we respect 1v1 we accepted we won't hesitate to just drop on you if you will hang at sun. After all we are ebil piwates with no honor and stuff :)

Basically most important in this game is "experience" and a "tactical plan". With tactical plan I mean you have to decide on the tactics you want to fly, .e.g. are you going for brawling or kiting? are you going for high-dps output or for high-tank to outlast the enemy, if so active or buffer? are you using e-war or neutralizers?

Once you have decided for a tactical plan and you have fitted your ship in an adequate way experience comes in to play. Experience allows you to distinguish between good enemies (you are able to win against) and bad enemies (you will loose because they probably will have the perfect counter fitted or because you smell the blob nearby).

In summary: go out, try out different fittings and most important after every fight (won or lost) make an analysis. What was the reason for success or for failure. And adapt.

BTW: Learning PVP is often easier if done in a corp with good friends which you can use as "test dummies" as well as to fleet up with them and to learn from their experience. You should consider simply joining one, like ours which is also in Faction Warefare and thus will deliver you many targets for free.

Oooh, you'll probably berate your mate one day for this...!

Lol, nah seriously. Welcome to EvE. Many will tell you their version of what it is and all that, so I won't bother. Suffice to say that your life has now changed. Forever. An old boss of mine got me into EvE in 2004 while at work. We were both 'let go' shortly after. Ugh
