Making EVE work on this laptop

Heya! I'm having troubles getting EVE to work on my laptop. I was hoping I could run it, but when I fire it up, the following happens (both in safe mode and normal):

- EVE launcher (from steam) works fine, click button PLAY
- EVE launches in the taskbar, but I don't see anything. Screen flashes to black a few times
- After a short while I can hear the login-screen music, but the desktop is frozen (clock doesn't move)
- After a lot of buttonbashing (alt-tab, alt-enter, ctrl-alt-del) I hear a bubbly sound (from video?) and I can get the login screen with the EULA to flash on-screen a few times, but I can never do anything with it.

DirectX, videodrivers etc. are all working fine and up to date. Full laptop specs can be found here.

Any ideas if and how I can make it work?

Sok.

Update: I got it to work after some fiddling.

I downloaded EVE from the website (so no longer using via steam), and then it worked when first started in safe mode. The launcher still appears to be somewhat unresponsive and may launch multiple clients if I'm careless :D
