I agree with the OP, a new drone interface would be great. The NPC AI changes have had the unintentional benefit of bringing drone-based gameplay into sharp focus, so I hope that CCP might find their way to bumping this up the 'to do' list.

I recently wrote a blogpost, No Retribution for Old Drones, about this very topic. Whilst digging for info on previous drone UI proposals, I found a player-made mock-up from 2006, which I used in said article. The fact that there has been a demand for drone control improvements for at least 6 years is telling.

That there are keyboard shortcuts is no excuse for an abysmal UI. It is something that really is long overdue, especially now there is more need to micromanage drones.

I've repeated the drone portion of my blogpost in the Features & Ideas Discussion sub-forum, in the further hope of encouraging CCP to address the problem. As I recall, Team Game of Drones chose that name for the express purpose of addressing drone UI issues. If folk want to go throw their weight behind Time for Drones v2.0, please do. CCP are listening, so it's worth a go :)

Shortly after posting I hadn't lost a drone in another thread, I lost my 1st light drone lol. It was tractored and my ship was tractored.

I've been away for over a year. Is there a way to tell who is targeting/using ewar on a drone from UI? There were a lot of NPC frigs out at that time and I didn't know which one to send my other 4 drones to pop. It's probably a setting a need to turn back on, but iirc we used to be able to see what ewar is on what drone? Anyway those are the type of tools I'd like to have added.

Also I haven't done it myself, but since the different drones have different defensive attributes perhaps it's time people started taking that into consideration rather than just DPS potential. For example, based on the stats from Evelopedia the ammar light drone has about 1/4 the shields of the caldari one. The gallante has a little more than 1/2 of the caldari shield base iirc. While caldari has the 2nd highest damage modifier.

If the drone menu was a small action bar similar to the module action bar, with same functionality for groups etc, that had 5 buttons one for each drone, and you would right click each button and assign it a drone or just load drone groups on to the action bar. If a drone was in the drone bay it would launch the drones, when pushed, and if the drone was active it would return the drone bay, the buttons would have a red aura that would make it easy to see which drones was taking damage.

I don't even use drones anymore but this is a seriously awesome idea. Either have each drone occupy a F key or let the user make a group of whatever drones, regardless of type.

Also, to easily see what drones are being damaged, it could use the same display as when guns get overheated or they could implement something different that's easier to see (this would only apply for individual drones). Alternatively the individual drones could pop up in a similar fashion as when you target something, but it would just be in a different area of the window.

I guess you are right about being able to improve survivability by picking the right drone, but even with mission specific drones you still risk loosing them if you don't pay close attention to their health.

But if may be worth it when using ships that don't give a bonus to drone health.

Level 4 missions are already too easy, you should all stop complaining over something as trivial as your drones, go try a WH site and you will see what i mean. In wh space drones are not drones, they are cookies for sleepers.

Thats all cool but i need the drones to finish the mission Caldari is a combination of missiles and drones to do the missions.

But The GM alraidy admited that my drones are usles and that i need to fit smaller launcers on my ship

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe getting some friends in on the missions will speed it up? Eve online rewards teamwork, and in your case it will be mighty beneficial to get some friends into the missions with you.. Or alternatively get a tengu? Another option is to kill all the big **** with missiles then kill the small **** with your drones afterwards.
