Market Trading, setup for day trading only?

I've been contemplating the market and trade. I looked over the current setup and it appears there are no tools listing your current assets in a neat and orderly manner for market purposes.

There is an assets menu don't get me wrong, however it doesn't appear to be oriented for the market place. For instance it does not appear to be listing what price you bought the product at or when you bought it, all relevant points for long term investment. As it is currently setup in Eve, it's just for day traders yet lists the 5 day, 20 day, and gives graphs for up to a year.

Am I missing skills here, or do I have to use a spreadsheet? It's massively elaborate but there is enough information missing here to force me to pull out a spreadsheet.

I noticed there are export options for the various information, but I don't understand why not just add two little pieces of info purchased price, current market price, the date purchased could be left off as it's only relevant to long term investors but I would like that info as well. All this just added to assets and people wouldn't have to use a spreadsheet.

1. Some of us have had assets for literally years.
2. The asset tool is not intended for use with market just what you own.

There has to be some alternative though, right. They didn't intend for us to do this work outside the game I hope. I heard of meta gaming but come on. I figured I'm just missing a skill for this kind of info.

You can use your Wallet's Journal tab to keep track of what you bought and sold, and for what prices... However it's not exactly the ideal tool for a trader.

Have you ever heard the term, Spreadsheets online?

Most players use spreadsheets to keep track of manufacturing, invention, and trade activities to determine their profit margins and the like. There are some player made tools that help, you can export your journal sheets, but there really aren't any ingame tools that are ideal for market trading.

Like using the in game browser to pull it up? Don't suppose you have some resource links on hand?

Maybe Eve Mentat could be of use for you?

I use it for tracking my profits from L4s but it also can track your buy/sell orders and show you some useful details about market, for example when somebody puts sell order for items you are selling but with lower price, etc.

1.) Asset windows is just a list of stuff you own. It isn't there for market purposes.

2.) You can make your own spreadsheet of when and for how much you buy items. But usually Traders don't want items to be sitting in their hangars for years....It's wasted capital.

Usually you want to resell an item for profit as soon as possible. So you can invest that money in new items which you then resell again.

This is even more so with markets as over night a certain items can crash and you will loose money over it.

3.) If you want to become a trader or industry guy. Get used to switching to Excel or another out of game program to track stuff.

EDIT:

The only thing you can do to make it work in game:

Make a Google Document spreadsheet and use the IGB to adjust / read it.

I'm looking for long term investment rather than short-sell. Is there any dividends in these corps how do you know which ones are paying out?
