Im looking at putting up a medium Caldari control tower. I noticed that the next leg up is the dread guristas control tower. Is it worth getting a faction tower or should I stay with the Caldari tower? The tower will be used for manufactoring mostly, maybe research also.

Where?

If anywhere other than Hisec, your own incredibly well defended wormhole, or deep in the darkest depths of Alliance held SOV, I'd stick with the Caldari. A lot of people find pirate faction towers fun to shoot at.

Pirate towers are no longer available from loyalty point stores - which means that every one that will ever be in the game already is. Figure on a budget of 3 billion for a pirate tower.

Don't do it.

They are expensive assets to have floating in space, and invite attack by advertising you have ISK for a ransom.

Good choice Blink. I think we all do the "ooo its so shiney!" move the first time we start looking at POSs. Yes, its pricey, sexy, and will "save" you fuel but that "fuel savings" ends up taking you something in the realm of years to actually see once you factor in the obscene initial price tag, and in the mean time, you've got a giant 3.2 billion isk sign floating in space that says "please, please shoot me".

Think of it like going shopping for your first car; that Porche looks great on the showroom floor, but ultimately, you need something to get to work, pick up groceries, and bring the kids to practice: just go for the Toyota.

you say that like the Cayenne cant do all that too.

If you had a tower from when they were a lot cheaper then yes you can use it, outside of Caldari space the population drops off quite quickly and the threat of wardec and the people poking around your tower are a lot lower. caldari blocks are also sold close to jita pretty much everywhere as well so the fuel issue is slightly less then any other tower type (once you are out of the racial space).

For right now, it seems you do not have the DG tower you are thinking of using. so the answer really is no, its shiny and expensive but the fuel savings arent really worth it out of sov space (and in sov space there is just as much of a "ooh shiny make it pop" issue, if not more in some parts.)

If CCP reseeds tower bpcs where they used to, then it will be worthwhile, for now they are just expensive ornaments. use at your own risk.

Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

When they were available, they were indeed worth having as the cost difference was made up in 'cost to fuel' savings usually within the first year.

Now with their cost and the change to the fuel requirements last year, they are absolutely impractical.
