It's sad........really.

I just don't understand why you feel the need to post that in this sub forum.

This sub forum is packed with a bunch of wild hungry wolfs just waiting to rip into a little lost lamb.

The last thing Eve needs to see right now is more of these farewell hate threads.

It's sad.......really.

Now that that's been said, let's talk about the game and not these forums.

I've been playing this game for over 3 years. I've found that the majority of Eve players are actually cool friendly helpful people. Don't get me wrong, If you hang out in certain areas of Eve then you'll see lot's of bad people. Hell, after a while it'll either make you turn into a bad person yourself or as in this case, just quit. The main thing is to not surround yourself with those type of players. You don't have to join a player corp to meet and socialize with good people. Just gotta step up and look around, you'll find em soon enough.

Now about the little gank horror story. If there's any new players reading this thread, don't let that scare you away from Eve. Seems a lot of players like to paint Eve into a big ugly picture of Doom and Gloom. Those gank attacks are not an everyday occurrence unless you're hanging around is those certain areas I mentioned earlier. If that's the case, then get up and go to another area. The Eve Universe is huge.

While writing this, I'm reminded of a large 100 gl. aquarium I used to have. I had set it all up with lava rock caves, air bubblers, plants, gravel, etc. I then went and bought a bunch of different types of fish for it. They were all small and swimming round together. Looked cool. But after a while some of the fish grew rather large while others stayed small. Well, the large fish had the run of the tank, sitting out in the open ready to attack any other fish that got close to them. Much to my surprise the small fish adapted and were able to survive by hiding in the plants and rock caves. When it came to feeding time, the large fish quickly jumped on the food first and after they got their fill, the small fish would come out and get their fill. While doing this, the small fish would keep an eye on the large fish, ready to dart back into their safe little havens. None of those little fish were ever killed by the large fish, but they did get chased around the tank a few times.

The Eve Universe is just like the fish tank I had. You just gotta be smart and able to adapt, go find your little piece of heaven and keep an eye out for the larger fish. Just remember, Eve is what you make out of it. I guess that's about all I have to say.

Good luck to the OP, I'm sure you'll find your little piece of heaven somewhere out there in the gaming world.

You are correct, griefing happens in any game with more than a few people playing. However, those griefers don't typically get support from the game's developers and most don't have quite so many ways to grief others.
Your problem here is that you seem to confuse legitimate gameplay with griefing. This is most likely due to you not going into the game with the right expectations.

This is not any of those other MMOs you've tried. This is an MMO where conflict — actual conflict — between players lies at the very heart of the game. Everything revolves around it. You need to be prepared for this and learn to either win or avoid those conflicts. The game will not help you because, again, it's about you versus the game but about you versus everyone else.

If I were to guess, I'd say that you've accidentally mixed up “setting” and “genre”: the two are not the same thing. You wanted a space setting, but in finding a diferent game with that setting, you accidentally picked a game in a completely different genre than what you were expecting (and possibly, than what you wanted).

It's perhaps a harsh lesson, but you need to learn it early… as in, right now. Or, if this is not the kind of gameplay you enjoy then, sadly, you need to find a different game that offers that kind of gameplay.

You make valid points. If you google Starflight (EA 1986) you'll see what I was looking for. Eve has all the right mechanisms and such in place except for the Aliens. I've always like to craft as part of playing, SWG had the best crafting system ever (originally), Eve seemed to be the next best thing.

It seems if PvP is the only goal it's a terrible waste on the part of the developers to put in all the planets, factions, wormholes and such, when all they needed was a big open arena and a vendor to buy ships from.

As for my experience playing MMOs I started in

  • 2001 with World War II Online
  • in 2003 I was in SWG Beta and started playing at launch, quit with NGE and went to WoW
I suffered through WoW for a while
I spent a year making Mods for Fallout 3
    then returned to SWG
I came to Eve after extensive reading about the game systems
When Sony got all of it's crap... er.. I mean applications running again and announced SWG was shutting down I stayed with Eve

I did brief trials in a number of others like LOTRO.

The only thing the devs will do is move this to OOP, where "I Quit" threads belong.

That being said, EVE isn't everyone's cup of tea. I'm sorry that it took you 5 months, and 16 posts on the forums to figure this out.

EDIT: Question though: why did you invest time and money into FOUR accounts for a game that you do not like? It isn't exactly the biggest secret that EVE is like this.

Thanks. Actually I've always wanted an aquarium that large. That's a very good analogy. I just don't like hiding in the caves and bushes all the time and I'm certainly not a big enough fish to go exploring which probably wouldn't be much fun because i'd be to busy with the directional scanner.

The vast majority of people I've interacted with in Eve have been friendly and helpful. I've actually come across a few that were total a-holes but at the same time were helpful.

I haven't had a lot of bad experiences "Personally", actually I've had relatively few. Perhaps those I fell in with while nice and helpful see eve's "gloom and doom" side. I once came to the forums to try to find an established group from 0.0 that I could negotiate mining rights with. I'd mine, each time I hauled out a load they could scan my ship to make sure I was being honest, I'd give them a pre-arranged percentage of what I mined. I thought that would work nicely, they get free minerals, I get some protection because they are there protecting their territory anyway and regardless all the asteroids would be back the next day. I got two offers to accept my proposal, however, my Corp mate were so adamant that it must be a trap and that they wanted nothing to do with it, that I dropped the whole matter.

Perhaps after months of pretty much playing solo because I don't have enough SP to participate in Incursions and no one else I know is very interested in what I'm doing.... I'VE BEEN BRAIN WASHED!

You realise that whoever was trying to **** you off just won? Don't let things get you so angry, you only lost a frigate and where called some names, I am not trying to be insulting but if that makes you rage quit its probably for the best, it will save you a lot of hassle in the future, sometimes when things go wrong in EVE they really go wrong. If a frigate loss makes you angry imagine how losing a super carrier would make you feel, or if a corp you founded was victim to a large corp theft.

Not to the extent I've seen in Eve. Actually WoW is much worse than SWG. But in both WoW and SWG those players "tend" (not all by any means) to be the same ones that are avide, elite PvPers (at least in their eyes) so they aren't difficult to avoid.

In SWG there used to be a couple ways to trick you into PvP without you wanting to or even knowing you were elligible until you got killed. Those loopholes were eventually fixed.

Actually Jhagitti I'm not the least bit angry, in fact I've learned quite a bit just by watching this thread. What I hoped to express in my original message is dissppointment. What I hoped to accomplish was that a dev might see my post and think about it the next time changes are contemplated. I particularly wanted to post after the well written humble apology I read recently from someone at CCP about not listening to players.

You attach the word "whining" to anything you don't agree with, because you want everyone to play only the way you want, anything else must be quickly drowned out just in case someone might listen.

It wasn't a lie at the time, though it has definitely because an incorrect statement since. Before I could log off there were five responses to my post, I had to see them. I think I even admitted that the first time I responded to someone.

At least if you mean the part about me not caring and not reading. The insults have been much fewer than I expected though I haven't been dissappointed in the... well... uninformative nature of those posted.

I started in 1998th in Ultima Online - there people killing each other just to check if there is anything valuable in your bag - or to cut off some meat from dead body to cook it and feed their pet dragon (or kitten). And all of that right near borders of major city - just few steps away from guarded territory. EVE is very friendly game compared to that.

No I mean that eventually you at least knew when you were tagged for pvp. As a combat medic I had to be very careful with my area heals to not heal anyone that was tagged. The problem came because medics that got tagged in this way didn't know it until it was too late.

I've typically avoided PvP because when you PvP completely differently than the other aspects of a game.

Well, it deos not make sense as "sombre" is not a word in Spanish.

"Shadow assasins" should be translated as "Asesinos de las sombras", although it doesn't sounds specially cool in Spanish due to polysemy ("asesinos de las sombras" could mean either that they belong to shadows, that they come from the shadows or that they killed the shadows, as "de" can mean either "(belonging) to", "from" and "of").

We are both wrong :). Sombre comes from the verb Sombrar meaning to "frighten or astonish". Maybe that means I frighten Assassins? or that I'm Frightened of Assassins?

Oh well, if I stay, I'll be sure to request a name change.

I ran spin groups for budding jedi. Suddenly bounty hunters everywhere was not uncommon as well as the accidently forgetting you were spec ops and getting swamped by rebels in the star port canteen while getting entertainer buffs. It was fun.

It would seem you arenot ready for a game with real risk.
