Ok, that is cool. It cranks up the pucker factor by an order of magnitude though for people like me that tend to hide more than lose..er fight. I'm going to have to speed up my PI transfers or get caught on the POCO.

Correct, the C key only toggles the tracking camera on off, the checkbox in the scanning window centers the tracking point. It will also temporarily enable tracking while it is set.

ah. i understand. its already centered in my case so it makes no difference visually.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

This is a wonderful addition to the "probe drop" method.

Did the overlay come back to the maps though?

Reason is this, when you use the D-Scanner at max range, you get a hit, then cut the range by halves for a "binary search" of the distance. This gives you a location to drop combat probes on a target and if they are not mashing D-Scan on a tight interval, and your scanning is fast, they won't know you got a warpable hit (of course, with rigs, implants, etc, you can use a "loose" formation and more looser the larger the ship) .

I recall seeing that the tactical overlay on the map was gone in a previous expansion, where it showed the distance rings in AU, and this would be quite helpful, but no access to an EvE client at the moment to check on this.

The method I described is not new, but there is a kind of "instinctive shooting" aspect to where to drop the probes. If you get it right, you can put combat probes in a loose formation for one scan and get a location, and they won't see a thing coming. I learned this from post by a top PVPer (King Rothgar actually) and thankfully not the hard way. Having tried it myself, it does work.

Thanks CCP. Now if only I could actually play well enough to kill a ship Cry. Cool

Am i the only one that thinks its slower? Maybe I'm just used to the old system.

Seems like once you get good at dragging the camera around and landing exactly only the belt/anom it's a lot faster than trying to click something.

Plus, once you click something else, the box on your own ship disappears.... so after your 5 deg scan fails it becomes harder to start your 15 deg scan or w/e

Just my thoughts.

Tomorrows hotfix will add support for camera center offset, i.e. for players playing with ship not in the center of screen, and should return your ship to your chosen location once tracking is disengaged. I also fixed a fault in the "target locking" ignore code which disabled automatic target switching if you had no shortcut mapped to target locking.

Have you tried if checking the "Tracking" checkbox in the dscan window (under "Use active overview settings") suits your needs?

Edit: Oh, you mean so that functionally it is as (good as) it is now, but it keeps the target where you want it to be visually (for aesthetic reasons)?

Thanks so much for this! The scanner has recently taken a turn for the worse since, at some point, it started to limit each of your scans even while 'drilling' down the angles so you were severely limited in how quickly you could find someone.

This change doesn't fix 'that' but does something so much better. Perhaps removing skill from the equation in the process but then again perhaps a level playing field should be welcomed?

No it doesn't work in Map hud just regular view. Which kinda confuses me cause I've been using the map view to do this hands down faster for quite a while now. You can point right at an anom and get a 5 degree on it simple as pie. You just use the you are here marker as the back sight and the anom, astral body as the front sight. Then just dial in the range if there are a couple of things in line to know where he went. The only thing it might be good for is catching which direction a ship flew off in if you weren't zoomed out enough to see where the dude went in time.
