With the new update if I steal from someones wreck, mission item, what have you and then jettison the item the 'victim' is able to loot from my can without repercussion. WTF?

This should instead be driven by their safety setting. If their safety is full on, they should not be able to loot back their stuff. But on medium or lesser setting if they choose to take back their stuff, a suspect flag should still result. For who is to say they are only taking back their stuff, what about the additional items I jetted into the can??

Failing to do this really does seem to be turning hisec into a carebear disneyworld theme park IMHO....

You apparently missed the entire point behind changing the can mechanics.

You're describing exactly WHY it works as it does now. They don't want you to biat someone into being legalally flagged because you stole from them.

You're the only one stealing. Taking back what you took from me isn't theft. Why would you expect it to be treated that way just because you threw it back into space. Just because it was in your hold doesn't make it yours.

Not really no. If you value your property rights so much, maybe you shouldn't have first violated his.

Spelling it differently to get around the filters is a no-no.

Pretty much this.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

You are better off flipping and shooting the can so they become angry enough to retaliate, if you choose to still attempt can flipping. Or you can get an alt to flip it once again for you, but that just seems like too much effort to shoot a hauler.

I didn't pay attention to patch notes and got caught out by this, fortunately the new safety saved me from getting concorded so i guess there is a point to that too Oops

Eh, just need someone to act as a middle hand and you are back in business!

Or will the safety system prevent them from taking it? If so, enjoy Retribution.

1) Steal item.
2) Drop item.
3) Pick up item with alt/friend
4) Drop item again.
5) ????????
6) PROFIT

You see, if victim decides to disable safeties to take item back everyone will be able to shoot it(bring any friends you want, not only corp members). So if you think about it the new system works for you and not against you if you put in a little more effort.

you seem legit. Yep, great idea, how about you be allowed to do whatever you want without consequences.
