Sir Patrick Moore Passes away

Today we lost another of the great British eccentrics. Famed equally for introducing millions of British kids to astronomy, his bad taste of dress, and the finest source material for many a UK comedian he will be missed as one of those last real 'characters'.

Less known, he was a Sunderland flying boat pilot during WW2 and played the xylophone to a very high professional standard.

For us of a certain age, he was the (UK) face and voice of all the Apollo moon missions

A great and sad loss, I grew up watching him on TV back in the days when Sky at Night was still in black and white.

He kindled a love of science which has never left me and was a figure that spanned an amazing age from valve radios (the "wireless" as it was called then) through the Moon landings and up to modern day computing.

It was a life well lived RIP Sir Patrivk
