Do you mean there that WiS should have been the point at which CCP stopped further development on Eve? I honestly can't tell if that is what you're saying.

As they are still working on their in-game, maybe its a good decision. Maybe a bunch of idiots running a company and trying to expand 3-fold with only one revenue generator is a bad idea.

Trying to produce three games at one from one income source is a bad idea if your company is so dysfunctional that 2 years of development time goes into a new feature and Captain's Quarters is what pops out the other side.

Every time you post a WiS thread, Hilmar strangles a kitten.

As someone earlier said. I would rather pay for a WiS expansion than getting all of these (some with features that we dont need at all) expansions for free.

I can get behind this as well.

Make it a retail expansion. Those people that want it will buy it, those that don't wont. It would expand the game, bring in new players, and added revenue for CCP.

Indeed. I'd pay for ability to open the damn door, look out of station window onto planet and departing ships. Also for some alien pets, plants, pet plants, and - of course! - few exotic dancers in CQ.

Just it should be single retail package for sane price instead of set of separate $70 items.

If I were on Team Avatar I'd be taking a serious look at what people are doing with Kickstarter these days. Even if nothing comes out of it, I 'm sure there are plenty of EVE players with plenty of money willing to gamble on an idea.

If I was CCP I think I'd start asking myself if someone else could develop a game like EVE with avatars before I could develop the avatar part.

I honestly think the biggest threat to the expansion of EVE itself, is another studio coming along and making a game just like it, but with the WiS part included.

Exactly.

About WiS as separate payed expansion module I disagree.
This is the idea behind the current NEX store-CQ_Avatar customization we already got in Incarna (and I think NEX store should be removed from the game).

The whole point here is that WIS need to progressively integrate with the major EvE gameplay and standards, i.e. the goods used in WiS have to be produced (and destroyed) in the same economic cycles of EvE. Or would make no sense to me. And this hardly could happen if configured as separate optional expansion.

Very good point.

That slipped my mind.

Well, in my vision you can anchor to POS "WiS" modules. Like Habitative modules (kinda like improved CQ), Coorporation lobbies, offices, Recreative Modules (with gambling games for ISK, like the what already done by players on web sites) and so on.

All this should be built, have mantainence costs and so on, as any other POS component.
And yes, all this should be destructible. like any other POS component.

Kickstarter is a great idea. The more I think about it, the more I like it. There would be ZERO arguments about "EVE players don't want WiS" when EVE players raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for WiS. It'll be very obvious and clear-cut.

As for another game doing what EVE does? I think risk is minimal/nonexistent. For one, the sci-fi genre is notoriously underpopulated, compared to fantasy, especially in MMOs. Second, even upcoming games (like Star Citizen) focus on better combat first, and avatars a distant second. And thirdly, EVE had 10 years to build up some features, so it will still look impressive.

In other words, I think EVE is too old to worry about competition now. Though I do believe that if EVE had serious competition during its life cycle (if Jumpgate, Black Prophecy, etc., weren't total jokes), we would have seen some improvements as the games would borrow successful elements from each other like so many other MMOs do.

There is a good point in Instanchuk's missive:

Quote:
There are many things that could had happen in New Eden, and now aren't happening, and will never happen, that it hurts to think of the wasted potential. From blowing ship to shooting dudes. Yeah. We really needed a hundred Chronicles and 10 years of lore to get there, didn't we.

I would love for the lore to be more deeply integrated into the game, and I would love for there to be the convincing illusion that I am part of a vast universe, not just one capsuleer in the equivalent of a small farming community. But the implementation has to be a seamless extension of EVE: If some areas are safer than others, it should be because people are less likely to be violent toward you in some areas, generally--just like it is flying through blue space now. The players should determine that, not the game.

Also, +1 to Kickstarter. Anything that gives CCP more resources without requiring them to take on debt is good.

This thread has given me quite a bit of hope. In fact, I just re-upped my account after a year of inactivity to express my interest in WiS/Incarna, and that the chance of eventually having Avatar-based gameplay is the future.

Let me point out I'm not a carebear - I'm just a realist. My meagre 8 million SPs don't stand a chance against the 200 million SP juggernauts that fly in the vast dark, so I've been forced to find other ways to enjoy the remarkable environment of EVE. Dance emotes and fashion shows have absolutely NO place in the incredible setting of EVE... but compelling, relevant, Avatar-based gameplay is a neccessity if EVE is to keep ahead of the competition.

Games have always evolved by adding that 'plus factor' that gets the gamer's attention. From my first Pong console in the early '70s, through the Commodore and the Atari, into PCs and PS3s and XBoxes, games have continued to expand in scope from a single paddle bouncing a ball into the wonderous EVE Universe we have today.

But unless EVE grows in scope, competition will eventually come and add that extra 'holy grail' factor no other sci-fi game has done to date by successfully integrating human and ship avatars into a single game. I would prefer CCP be the guys that did it first. We all want EVE to remain the coolest game online.

PLEASE keep the possibility of relevant, engaging, compelling Avatar-based gameplay alive.

I really hope that WiS would be implemented despite all WiS haters.
I like EVE as it is. Dark and unforgiving environment and WIS should be like that.

Only thing I don't understand are WiS haters. According to them WiS would take out "darkness" from EVE but Snowball launchers are somehow "badass"?

WIS will come, question is only when... my guss would be after WoD Online.

Why it needs to come? Cause you can only do as much with spaceships alone... WIS is the logical, next step for a fully fledged scifie simulation.

All i want is to be able to walk around my ship, not the whole ship but parts of it, to be able to have my corp mates come onto my ship and walk around while we chat our usuall ****, it would be allot of fun to sit around and chill in a nice enviroment, look out the windows ect. To be able to see the insides of the things i have been staring at for years would be wonderfull, it would give you a true appreciation of the scale of the ships. Would be nice to be able to walk down the stairs from the captains quarters and actually walk around the outside of your ship aswell, imagine being able to see a carrier in its full glory and finally appreciate just how big those things are and now many people die everytime one pops.

I actually like WiS, even if it's limited to the CQ at the moment... It has a lot of potential. If they're gonna expand on it, that'd be awesome. And another reason for me to stay out of Jita. I don't want 2000 lunatics running around in-station, trying to kill me like some average FPS-players. The hundreds of pirates on the Jita 4-4 undock is already hard enough to escape.

I'm not sure if I have already said this, but if a kickstarter (or similar) project started up, I would pay out. I'm not sure I would happy about paying out, but I want WiS content enough that I would.
