But if you really want to go pro, go for Machariel

Thanks for the tip, I just may have to try that next. While I've always viewed projectile weapons as inherently irresponsible, if I can get my gunnery skills up high enough I'm sure that I can overcome my distaste for them. I've also been looking into the world of armor tanking, which until recently I've always seen as flat out inferior to shield tanking, but I've seen people who really know how to do it right and have been trying to learn from them as well.

So I guess there may indeed be steps beyond the Drake. I know most people use it as a stepping stone on their way to the Tengu, but I can see how ships like the Machariel can be a good step up as well.

Since the Retribution patch I have only run around a dozen lvl4 missions, but in those missions I have had my sentry drones targetted exactly three times total.

That's interesting, because I had my all of sentries attacked within seconds of deployment the first time I launched them post patch. Enemy wasn't even in range yet, which is the only reason I managed to recall them before they got blown up.

Maybe you should discuss drone strategy to combat the new AI?

The new drone strategy is simple: Don't bother.

OP, you really should try the Tengu. It is basically a draek that does twice as much (or more) DPS. As a bonus, with the new buffed HAMs, if you don't mind ABing into range (~30K or so for Rages, 40+ for regular/CN) you can be doing 950ish DPS for still far less work than flying a drone/turret boat.

When I finally said screw it, joined the masses, and got a Tengu, I was appalled at how easymode it is. You'll wonder why in the hell you ever did it any other way.

F*ck the Drake. Alpha-Maels is where it's at. Full T2 fit with T1 Meta-4 Arties and you can kill anything quickly enough, even without drones (just warp in at a distance, one-shot any frigates, cruisers and destroyers in the mission). Caldari ships aren't the best for missions, even though they always hit if the enemy is within range. Missiles have pisspoor DPS, and the ones that actually have a decent DPS have so short range the enemy can still hit you from outside your range. Minmatar has no such problem. There's a reason they're also called Winmatar.
