o/

Me and the ole lady have two dogs, they are sisters so they're alot alike, except mine is black and hers is brown, they are australian shepherd and border collie mixes, and they are sweet dogs.. they are about 1 year old now, and lately i've been noticing that MY dog, no matter what i do, smells horrible. The g/f's dog always smells fine, I can't figure out what could be causing this, their fur is the same, same bathing habits (I wash them a couple times a week, dry them off with towels to avoid the wet dog smell) and they've been treated exactly the same since we got them, I trained them, so they are awesome dogs if not just a little too hyper. My only problem is that my dog always smells like a dumpster and the other one doesn't, I've searched and I can't come to any conclusions on my own, should I take her to the vet? or is it just possible that my dog, having black fur, got more traits from her dad (who may or may not have smelled) and the other dog takes after her mom?

any thoughts, ideas... anything would be appreciated. my mom thinks she just sweats more, but I keep it cold in my house so it doesn't make sense.

tl;dr- dog reeks.. wtf?

I do not believe she is ripping, its more of a consistent smell than one that comes and goes. and also, they used to eat dog food, but now they just eat the girlfriends whatever bran cereal

clean the ears.

no really, most of the reek comes from there. sometimes even washing the dog is useless if you don't clean up the ears thoroughly, but carefully.

going to try it now.

edit: ohhh yea thats where it came from, really I knew as soon as you said that cause it makes sense, the dog always keeps her ears down, so I never even thought of it, I was so confused about the fact that the girlfriend's dog DIDN'T have it, going to google how to safely clean them, +10 to you sir. thanks.

If he shows signs of itchy ears or the build-up returns quickly it could be mites or infection. Might still be worth a trip to the vet in that case. But a careful cleaning every once in a while is good.
