Randomly game DC's and tells me "socket was closed" Randomly during PVP or even sitting in the station.

It is honestly ruining the game for me. Can't know when I'm going to suddenly DC in what ship or what area.

Now I put this in GD because I've heard of many other people having the same exact issue. Many forum warriors just tell them it is Internets fault. I don't think so.

What is the deal with this? Why are so many people getting this error and what is the official answer from CCP? Do you even recognize it as a problem CCP? Whats up?

Thought new expansion might fix but nothing changed. Sad

I have been suffering it a lot recently as well but from what I understood it was more a problem with my ISP failing than CCP (as everyone using the same ISP has the issues)

In almost all cases this issue is caused by your ISP. You can use the steps in this guide to diagnose the problem and bring it to the attention of your ISP.

Hope this helps.

wait wait wait.... this kinda crap happens to me after EVERY expansion. I refuse to believe that my ISP screws up at the exact time as CCP releases an expansion every time.. I have several posts about this happening and it seems to resolve itself a few weeks after patches. I have done ping tests and traces, talked with my ISP for a long time about this.. and yes it happens after this one too. CCP is changing something or uses some weird outdated/rarely used connection as this is the only online game i have ever had this problem with.

Old osts about this same problem...

I find it a bit odd to blame my ISP for disconnects when only some of multiple clients disconnect with a "Socket was closed" error, while the others seem completely unaffected.

Had this problem for a few weeks, switched to a static IP when playing EVE, problem went away.

Generic answer is generic.

During a fight last night we had 4 people DC with a socket closed error at the same time. A west coast US player, two British (one on Virgin, one on BT) and a French player. Synchronised DCs resulting in 4 losses as it was mid fight. I also had one of my three accounts drop with a socket closed at the same time, but not the other two accounts.

ISP problem? I think not.

Yes we are all having the same problem with this game and only this game, it's on our end. I called my cable company 3 times and explained it to them it should be fixed soon. You can send me ISK to show your gratitude.

By the same logic, the fact that the other guys were able to finish the fight and kill you indicates this is not a general problem with CCP (I think they'd notice if everyone disconnected at the same time and it wasn't downtime).

This is one of those issues that actually requires the user (that being the player) to do some slightly more involved troubleshooting. When I have had this issue in the past, I usually set up a couple of tracerts (one to Tranq, and the other to a generic site like Google). Then when the issue happens, I can check the trace and see where the drop out is occuring. Normally it's at my ISP because they've jacked something up doing a server patch or something like that.

The fact that it happened to all of you at once really isn't evidence of anything except that it happened to all of you at once. Could be a router at some mid hop somewhere fried itself, and you were all connected through that router. Remember, the Interwebs are all connected, and the most obvious route is not always the one your data takes.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

It's not your ISP that causes the problem, at least not directly.

It's most likely due to a broken piece of traffic shaping somewhere between you and EvE.

It takes some time before the rules in the software is adjusted.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.
