Who says drones have to be these tiny little rocks.... why not make them fewer and much bigger in size.

Imagine having your drones (about frigate size) fly right beside you, wouldnt that be visually more engaging? wouldnt it add more depth and perspective?

This kind of change would be a nice foundation for further improvements on drone specialization, ie. fitting your drones to be short range/long range boats, propulsion etc.

not to mention less lag.

thoughts?

Lag is not about the size, it's about amount of objects in space at any given time...

About the drones, not rly fussed about looks tbh, fix their erratic behaviour first.

Aren't Heavy Drones the size of frigates? I don't see how this solves the lag problem either. If I had to fit my drones every time I did a lvl 4 mission I would go insane. No, just no. Shocked

simple solution: dont do lvl4 missions, you cant make those profitable even if you tripplebox three characters... to much hassle

the idea is instead of having 5 tiny drones, you will have 1-2 big ones

sure its bigger model, but it will be fewer of them in space.........

I like doing lvl 4 missions every now and again, they are fun! Also the only time you get to see the biggest explosions in EVE P

Huh? can't make level 4 missions proffitable? I run level 4's fairly casually, one or two a night, and that nets me enough to plex my second account and have plenty left over for whatever ships and moduels i need, i'd say that's proffitable.

I sorta like your ideas, not bad. This is the part that got me interested. I got to thinking about something like a slow moving sentry, that moved with your ship but not as powerful as a normal sentry. A sentry can be more powerful because it doesn't have to worry about moving. But just something that has a longer range than normal drones and maybe a same speed as a marauder so they keep up with normal battleships.

Making drones frigate-sized is silly. What happens to frigates that carry drones if you do that?
From an RP point of view, what happened to drone tech to make it necessary for drones to be so big?

I do like non judgement's idea about mobile sentries though. Maybe call them Escort Drones?

The idea is to improve on the game visually,
what could be better than added depth and perspective to your main ship? If you have a smaller ship flying right beside you, it will highlight the size and glory of your ship much more,
because otherwise all you see around your ship is empty space, and therefore cannot really grasp the size of it.
You want to stimulate peoples imagination, this is the way to do it.
+1 for sentry drone idea

besides fighters dont add anything visually appealing other than the globe of green/blue dots orbiting your targets

Lag is mostly about number of players on grid. Drones don't add as much as you'd think. NPCs add basically nothing.

Light drone is the size of a large car about.
Medium drone a large vehicle (armored truck size).
and heavy drone are about the size (mass wise) to a semi-truck

Fighter drones are the size of an a-4/mig fishbed fighter
Fighter Bombers are about the size of a SU-37/ f- 22 fighter.

Frigates are the size of a 747 about.

Adding a fitting option to an npc signficantly increases thier CPU use though and incrases thier behavior overhead. So unless you do a balance of trading in 5 dumb drones for 1 smart drone I would NOT approve of this idea.
