So I can finally fly a titan in about 2 months.

Is there any real benefit to doing so?

I'm in no alliance, I have no money to buy a titan, just the ability to use it.

Like, do the big alliances out there want titan pilots? Or do they already have enough?

Just wondering, thanks.

Bling points. That is all.

Do alliance want titan pilots?

Of course.

Are they going to just hand out a ship that takes 3 months and hundreds of people to build to someone they just met on the internet?

Not a chance.

Benefits to haveing a titan, erm yeah theirs alot.

- Bridgeing fleets, or your own personal haulers, that are hauling billions in loot or ore.
- flying the biggest ship in the game.
- being able to pretty much 1 shot carrier/dreads. ( DoomsDay)
- Ability to give bonuses,
- and a clone vat bay.

many more benefits,

But if you cant afford one on tq just do like people do on test server run around in a titan and kill everyone since their only 100isk.
and lots of alliance always demand more titan pilots.
Pandemic Legion uses Titans/supers on a daily basis.

but you also need to worry about where you park it as well if your gonna do some online boosting.

dont go ratting in it, as if hostiles see your ratting in it their going to devise a plan to catch it then kill it.

however judgeing by and reading your post means you actually havent given this much thought, at all,
you should do some reaserch then ask questions.

This right here. This makes titan training worthwhile.

Tbh. If you're asking this question, you probably shouldn't be flying/buying a Titan/Supercap at all.

The moment when you know what to do with one and how to actually make use of one without resorting to GD or simply the time when you don't need to ask those questions is probably the time when you could consider jumping into one. Just sayin'

There is one thing that almost every alliance is in need of that they'll give you for free. Dictors.

Anything bigger, you usually need to buy yourself.

This is not necessarily true, many alliances will reimburse battleships and below (if they are fitted properly and used in the correct context). Carrier or even super-capital reimbursement is not un-heard of, but is largely limited to the wealthiest alliances in the game.

Reimbursement yes, but I don't think I've seen any alliances that will flat out give you larger ships normally.

But I thought that taking care of our tech moons was ~easy~ and ~passive~.

You PVE. A lot. I'm not even joking here, this is how many titan pilots funded their ships.

True, but Logistics Rorquals are the least sexiest cap ships in the game.

The way I hear it you grind money so you can trap your alt/main in a prison?

Why would anybody want this? There has to be some benefit?

join BDCI and prepare to be surprised.

TEST also started some "free titan for trusted members" thing in spring but I don't know to what degree that was actually implemented.

I'm sure that many smaller corporations/alliances have titans that are corp financed and/or are considered corp property (epeen enhancers for CEOs and directors) - but you generally don't hear about these ships until they've been stolen.
The willingness of Jon Doe to join weekly mining ops so his director can get a free titan is much larger when he is already used to exploitation and when it's the corporation's first titan.

@OP just because they don't buy you the hull doesn't mean that they don't help you financially to get into a titan.
In large powerblocs you'll usually be able to buy supercapitals from internal producers at prices close to manufacturing cost (which is a significant difference to Sell Orders prices) and the alliance might provide you with some or all of the fitting at no charge (they don't want to see T1 trimarks on your lossmail).

.. wait a second, this seems oddly familiar...

Does PL then hotdrop the titan when it's ratting?

The last bit, pretty much. Corp assistance is how I got my orca below market value; I asked, they queued up the production, and I hammered out ISK and minerals to afford it. Most corps that build caps have the capital parts BPOs researched to usefulness, and production facilities, after all.

Titans are useful for bumping carriers off station and bridging fleets around. They are not useful in combat because of botched nerfs.

Sold mine a month ago. You should only get one if you're in a really active pvp corp with many pilots or inside a big alliance.
Because they're really only useful for bridging and bonuses in supers fleets.
