I should have known better myself. Figured after all the mixed messages before they wouldn't try it again.

It's almost as if there are two groups within NASA: one that thinks the public should know certain things, and one who wants to keep a lid on it all. That just so happens to be what various people have claimed for years now.

The speculation of methane is just a typical result of people getting their information retrieval devices cross-wired. There was methane in the Mars Curiosity Rover that showed up on one of the initial SAM, but it was confirmed to be very likely the result of contamination from launch, and wasn't found after in any quantities. The original amount was minute and to be certain, they flushed the rovers internals, and retested with negative results and have't found it since.

So, basically someone read the article and went all ape because they were stoned or something and thought it said pie instead of pee.

..queue rumors that NASA found a pie on Mars which peed on the rover..

It's still life. Even if it's a basic form.

A lot of people do think it's just trillions of dead rocks out there, and we're the one special exception where life managed to happen. If we found microbial life on two planets within our own system, all of a sudden you're looking at microbial life probably being common throughout the universe, and no more endless dead rocks.

As for what you said about the rover having a false reading, is it more likely the exact same error happened twice, or they're using the same trick to dismiss actual findings?
