Well to be fair they said it 'would not be a big priority', not that it wasn't on a list somewhere. WiS was always heavily tied to WoD and if development of that has reduced (including the loss of staff) CCP are caught between a rock and a hard place. WiS is an expensive endeavour, and not likely one to net them much income through EVE alone.

Equally I think CCP really need to sit down and find the 'game' in WiS - which currently doesn't exists. It might look nice, but is it any fun?

All they have to do is say " No new WiS " for 12 months or whatever. This wait and see bullshit is just annoying.

I guess ccp could release provisional dates for which they're planning introducing features to the game, but programmes are always subject to delays and projects always hit snags so it'd be a pretty speculative endevour. one they'd probably get flamed for.

I get that this has been re-prioritised along with everything else, and that it is now a low priority for CCP compared with FiS. Which is a good thing.

It's starting to look like Incarna will never be realised to the extent that was originally promised.

As one of the players who was looking forward to Incarna (not what we currently have, but the one with actual stuff to do). I'm pissed off, mainly because the feature which has been promised for years (and years), that I have been looking forward to, doesn't seem like its going to happen.

Can we actually get some sort of Dev Blog on this? What is the new scope for Incarna? Is it back in the 'coming soon' category?

The winter expansion will have 3 times as much WiS content as Incarna did. What's to be discontent about?

That the content was promised for the summer expansion, that it should have been completed and on TQ month ago and that the multiplayer incarna part and that is the important one, is delayed even further?

Yes, nothing to complain about.

Having updated captain's quarters is just adding insult to injury. "Ooh, I have a different colored wall in my quarters in which I still can't do anything." Say it isn't so.

Except that the technology-stack for both projects, including an engine that presumably can handle multi-avatar environments is done.

Id like the tv screens in CQ to used for ingame news. I dont know about the bandwidth limitations but it would be cool to have a tv station with a voiced news anchor toon reading the news.

Id like

- corporation/alliance battle footage.
- updates on sov and alliance movements.
- in character interviews with prominent eve players eg chribbas take on the recent defense of his system etc.
- trading and major market movement talk etc.
- csm election coverage and voting
- corp recruitment advertisements (which u pay isk for)
- footage of different play styles and careers such as explorer, pirate, corp thief, missioner etc

I think this would help new and older players get a ingame feel for what other pilots and corps are doing and might even encourage them to try different things and interact with other people outside their usual corp/ career channels.

would this be technically possible ? eg streamed from ccp hq to the eve client... or maybe hosted on youtube and displayed using some api trickery on the incarna screens. (saving ccp huge bandwidth costs/headache)

PvP whiners are gonna get theirs, yee-haw!

Yet, apparently, there's a few players who just got our hopes handed back to us with a nullsec turd on top... Roll

At the moment I don't think WiS has any future.

It could have been great, but they will leave it at hamster cage stage for like forever.

It is quite funny in a way:
I can see an addition I had wanted and waited for a long time stopped at a stage where it makes me feel claustrophobic.

Don't get me wrong, I get all the reasons for it (none of which have to do with concentrating on "FiS" but the simple fact they couldn't afford the project costs for the development of WiS...).

At least the standard question of noobs joining EVE has changed from: "I'm just a spaceship? I cannot even leave in station?" to "There is just this one room and I cannot invite anyone?"

The only good thing about it is the NEX store will not see many sales. Why buy something if you're the only one can see it?

Those space features better be good this winter! Twisted

Define 'done'?

I think the engine can handle an avatar, maybe a few avatars in an environment - but there's no evidence it could handle many multiples of that, or could scale resources depending on 'x avatars' at any one time. Even if the technology could scale at what point did it end up looking but fuggly as a result? That's a very significant challenge & I haven't seen anything to demonstrate that CCP had cracked that.

Dear Flamespar,

CCP's futre development plans for first person EVE avatar content is a console FPS called Dust (it was also a FPS/MOMRPG vamipre game too but, that has nothing to do with EVE and has been put on ice).

While we may not be walking in stations anytime soon, we shold be able to buy a PS3 and walk on planets in early 2012. From what I've read about Dust we should be able to shoot down at Dust soldiers on the planets and they should be able to shoot back at us with PI guns.

I for one would have loved seeing WIS as a new MMO linked with eve and dust, something like a mix of neocron and necromunda, but in huge cities inside stations. This is what i dreamt WIS would have been. Idea

We will hopefully not get anymore WiS as long as there is no point in having it. Right now we can look at our own avatars and use the NEX. If we can meet others then we can look at their avatars and buy stuff from the NEX. If we get establishments we can rent it for AUR worth billions of ISK per month, look at avatars and buy NEX items.

There will be no missions, no fighting for resources, no fighting at all in fact, no competitive market, no new professions, no new cool ships or other game-play stuff to use. You can just stare, shop, chat and shop more.

I confess that the idea of playing poker for ISK is something that might get me to step out the pod, but considering that you will have a place to play (AUR rent most likely at the cost of like a supercap/month) then you will have to pay through your nose just to sit down at the table.

CCP isn't all that good at creating fun things to do, missions do for example suck IMO. Eve players on the other hand make Eve worth playing since they keep the world going, they are a driving force. There is nothing players can do to make WiS interesting even if they wanted to. As far as I can tell, we are pretty much limited to buy NEX items, stare at avatars (and NEX items) and chatting. The sandbox is outside the station.

If they drop WiS it simply proves the point made by the community that WiS was nothing more than a testing bed for the WoD game. Since that game appears to have been put on hold...WiS is suddenly a low priority. Go figure.

I wanted Incana with sov wars inside massive stations. Not captain quarters. I wanted to be able to leave my ship and gun-up in station. I wanted to fight reds or war decs inside massive stations. I wanted a real time MMORPG element with 2k other payers in real time in Jita 4 4.

The problem with CCP implementing my wish is a limitation of current computer technology. CCP can't tweak EVE to let it run a single instance Jita 4 4 station with 1,500 to 2,000 players in real time and in the same station. This was the real problem with developing Incana in EVE's existing platform.

CCP decided to develop FPS avatar content to run on a separate platform, in the form of the PS3, and on a separate instance; on a planet surface, rather than in existing space stations with existing EVE characters.

CCP took this bold decision because of the insurmountable technology issues of making a reasonable FPS with 2k players. I don't think you can have a game like that with 2k players while maintaining >20FPS even with WOW graphics let alone WOD graphics.

This is most probably true. But, what's the point in being able to walk around in station if you can't interact with the other 1,500+ people in the station. Allowing us to walk out of an empty captain's quarter and into an empty station or a station with only NPCs to interact with...what's the point of that? Why even bother spending resources on that? I'm glad CCP spent resource on a workable FP avatar model like Dust than expanding CQ into walking around empty station.

I just say: I told you so(*) Lol

(*) cant be bothered to search the old forums before I went on hiatus some months ago.. but some might remember that I predicted that in a best case scenario we'd see the other CQs by Nov earliest and additional stuff not before Spring/Summer 2012.

I think we'll get the rest of racial CQs, some basic (limited number of players) congregation area for showing off monocles and stuff... and that' would be all, pretty much. Because CCP has no capacity to do what they wanted to, not even remotely.
