I just purchased a Prot for low-sec exploring but can't find any fittings on Battleclinic I like. Can anyone give me a good fitting for exploring in low-sec with a cloaky Proteus? Thx in advance!

cba to get the exact fitting but basically you go all out drones, cloak, probe launcher, salvager etc and armor tank.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I strongly advise against all in 1 prot for lowsec. Throw the scanning part out and use it to do sites only. That way you dont have to gimp your pvp capabilities too much and you will also be able to pay a "friendly" visits to WHs.

Personally I think that if you can't fit your own T3, or aren't prepared to fly out to lowsec to test it, you might want to consider something else. I3s are modular ships, with huge amounts of flexibility and you should build your own ships that suit the piloting style you prefer and know well.

Don't start with exploring in low with a Proteus Cool

1st a dual prop drone fit to be flown like a tankier, less droney Ishtar in Serp space. Swap the omni for appropriate profession module for those sites. Dual prop enables MWD-cloak trick, and also makes accel gate transitions faster. Put whatever in the empty hi slot- (bonused) tractor beam, neut, nos, remote repper, salvager etc. Shown below with mild pimpage to give ideas where shiny matters in this ship. Up to you and your wallet.

Proteus can do a great active tank for any space, but is ofc ideal for Serp/Guri. Play with hardeners and dmg mods to suit your chosen area.

2nd, a cloaky fit. Covert Proteus can't be a sentry drone boat (big drone and cloaky subsys go to same slot), so you will lose a lot of dps and all range. Covert ops cloak is not needed in exploration, it's a combat module used to sneak up on targets, but anyway since you asked. T2 fit here, under 500mil.

Figure out what you need, open your favourite fitting tool and start working. These are just directions to get uou going. Don't fly a billion ISK ship with a fit you just copied from a forum :)

You don't need a prot for lowsec exploration sites, a BC will do fine. Plus, when you lose it the loss won't be as bad. Believe me, If your in the wrong side of lowsec and you start flying around in a prot, someone'll catch you.

No. Never take a 1b ship in a WH without a probe launcher. If you get yourself stuck. You sir are royally screwed.

This was the main reason I posted this. I couldn't find any combination of subs that would create a successful "all in one" Prot fit. Also, thanks for the suggestions Sister Lumi and DaDudeinDump! I currently have a Ishtar and Myrm I explore with which I could convert to cloak when going into low-sec. It's been frustrating getting all these expeditions that end in low-sec so I never finish them to get the chance of getting the big goodies!

Ive done alot of exploration in low sec. i had a dedicated scanner alt though. But on my tengu i brought along a covert sub, so if i had to travel far i would find a station and refit there put the cloak and travel. with the cloak i loose quite a bit of dps, but if i need more i would switch back to the dps sub.
So i basicly carried it all with me, and left it station when doing a site. Atm im opting for a solution where i can use my tengu for scanning, covert and dps. just note that a covert ops cloaks requires 100m3 so maybe cargo holds while traveling.

The expeditions in low sec are often easily blitzed, alot of times you can trigger the next stage before going to 2 pocket. the shadow spawn might be at the first gate, so mostly i can just kill it while in the covert fit. expeditions can be very well worth. Ive just made about 1bill in mods the last week. one expedition gave 400mill and it was like blitzing a lvl2 mission.

check for scan probes and dscan, if you think someone is coming shorten the range on dscan.
