Japanese WWII Index Card - Translation??

Hi

A friend collects military medals and has an index card written in Japanese from WWII.

Can anyone provide a translation of this card?

the blue stamp print is in mostly kanji, so I can't translate that easily (i dont actually know these languages, i'm just looking at character tables) however, the katakana characters for ヘ 'he' and ス 'su' are in there.

the black writing however at the bottom appears to say

September 4th 1945, bankotsukuni (something) te R.A.A. Lieutenant Colonel
C.A.M Eachern ni (something something) su

now just figure out the somethings and you probably have the last part translated


after further research, i found these:

I think this is a message stating Lieutenant Colonel C.A. McEachern of the Royal Australian Army was taken prisoner (or maybe released?). He was lieutenant colonel of the 4th anti tank regiment.

or it could be stating the whole regiment that was under his command was released when japan surrendered, because september 4th was when Japan surrendered on Wake Island

The date does say 昭和20年９月４日, and I'm pretty sure the 昭和 era started in 1926. This would make the thing dated 1946; I know little about WWII, but that's definately after it ended.

While I know ~760 Kanji, I can only recognise around 3 in the blue stamps, but that's mostly because of the changes that occured after WWII or my own inept ability. Since I refuse to look them up, which is easy when you can recognise radicals, the へ is probably telling towards whom it is going. Whoever this IV分所 is. (I'm not good with names.)

EDIT - Nevermind, I'm being stupid. 昭和1年 would be 1926 thus making 昭和２０年 1945.

i love this sort of crowdsource research type stuff. It's hilarious when 4chan finds out who someone is based on them being shown in a video of throwing kittens into a river for 3 seconds (not saying the throwing of kittens is entertaining at all), or something of the sort.
