I'm only getting 30 fps to eve with a geforce 670 GTX gigabyte windforce edition GPU.

I get 60 fps with a 7870 twin MSI twin frozr.

The 670 GTX costs a lot more money, and scores higher in all benchmarks. For my own personal benchmarks in Furmark, I get

GTX 670 = 85 fps
7870 = 55 fps

Clearly the gtx is a much better card, so why does it only get 30 fps in EVE? This is the same computer with both GPUs tested, the 670 was meant to be a big upgrade, not a big downgrade.

Well this cannot be Vsync as that would be 60 FPS if your using a widescreen monitor...

Have you messed wityh some settings in the Nvidia control panel? if so hit the default button to check for changes.

Also if you press esc in EVE and go to the interval settings, have a play with those as its that which sets your FPS ingame. You must use full screen though to get accurate readings.

Windowed mode is set to 60 FPS max afaik.

Also to point out, unless your using triple monitors and using resolutions like 5760x1080 you wasted your money.

I'm using a very low resolution, one monitor. I've tried all sorts of settings in nvidia control panel, nothing works.

Have you checked other games? Is this localized to Eve or other games also?

If it is "just" EVE then my recommendation would be to download the very latest drivers, those from the CD are ancient.

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk for your drivers

Obviously uninstall your drivers first from the control panel, your screen will go off during this process but it will come back.

Just EVE, and I have the latest drivers.

Try changing the interval in the graphics settings.

I used to get terrible FPS until I changed it.

This sounds like a v-sync issue. Please double check both EVE and Nvidia Control Panel. You will probably be rendering more than 30fps, but the v-sync is bringing it down to 30 if it is being "unstable".
You can always disable V-sync briefly to see what FPS your card will produce without any limitations.
(Check nvidia's adaptive V-sync in the control panel.)

I've got the same video card (670 Gigabyte Windforce) using the current drivers (306.97) and am not having this issue.

Out of curiosity, what processor/motherboard combo are you using, and do you have the card in a PCI 3.0 slot?

Seriously this info comes from a CCP member? Damn...

It CANNOT be a VSync issue unless your monitor refresh rate is 30Hz which Im 100% sure it is NOT

VSync locks your FPS to the refresh rate of your monitor to avoid tearing. That is all it does..

It will be one of the interval settings.

I have just checked my Nvidia control panel and It COULD be that you have VSync set to Adaptive [half refresh] which would explain your 30FPS but indeed 60FPS is an interval setting and you can unlock that to its full potential [even though there's no need 60 FPS is just fine]

Correct, but there is more to V-Sync than you are saying. In particular if the software detects instability when trying to lock at 60fps to match a 60hz monitor, it will then attempt to half the fps to match the 30hz refresh rate band.

This is correct.

I have a GTX670 too and with MSI's Afterburner s/w running with OSD, I can see the GPU is mostly running at or below 50% with all details on max.

I never drop below 60fps, running with 306.97 drivers with an i7-2600k CPU & 8GB RAM, running Win7 64-bit.

Seems W7 64 versions don't have issues unless several clients opened with Nvidia cards from GTX 400 to 600 series, at least from what I know atm but I might be wrong.

What Win version are you using?
